I bought a new radiator from a later model XJ (open system). But I didn't convert mine to open. I just added a radiator with a radiator cap in it. I skirted the e-fan issue by running power for it though a relay to a switch in the dash (actually, I think it's in the overhead switch panel). And every time I recommend the rad w/cap, I forget all about the loss of the e-fan switch in the old radiator. :roll: See the radiator cap?

A long start period is common for older Jeeps. The problem is usually an aging CPS (crankshaft position sensor). The CPS is situated above the flywheel and has a little magnet inside that jumps when certain teeth in the flywheel spin by. This tells the computer exactly where the engine is in its rotation. As the CPS ages (or the wires associated with it corrode), the signal gets weaker and it takes a few more rotation for the computer to be sure what's going on. Perfectly normal, but eventually the thing might stop altogether. Could be years from now. Could be next week. My 88 has been like that since I bought it 10 years ago.

To my knowledge, this forum software doesn't support that type of thing. It is free software though. :D I have a cardomain site in my signature that give out details. Same sort of thing I guess.

Welcome to the club! :cheers: Please don't rebuild a chevy 2.8L that came in a Jeep. There are more issues with it than meager displacement (tiny oil passages come to mind). A better choice would be to find a 3.1 or 3.4L from an early 90s Camaro of Firebird. Those engines are infinitely superior to the older blocks. :thumbsup:

As an experiment, try shifting it into 4-low before you park.

It's technically possible for a computer to go bad, but it's a rare event indeed.

Doesn't much matter which side since we can flip the image. :D The bigger the image the better, we can always shrink it. When all is said and done, we should probably get a single person to host all the images.

4.0 is the low end of what will work. 4.56 or 4.88 would be better with 35s.

You might want to add aftermarket and stock backspaced rims to that. And there should probably be some standardization of picture (all from the side, or a 3/4 shot, etc). It could get to be a huge list. :brows:

Yup. Everything associated with the A/C needs to swap over. All the piping, controls, etc. It's sorta a pain in the butt. Plus you never know the condition of the junkyard parts. A tiny hole can cause all sorts of hassle. At least you can get a pressurization check-out for free. 8)

Yes, 2wds and 4wds use slightly different springs.

Auto or manual is really more of a personal preference (as long as you've got the right gearing). Me, I like manual transmissions.... for everything. :D We once owned a minivan with a manual in it.

Well, between the TJ drivetrain and the custom crossmember, mine essentially has a t-case rise on it so the whole thing is flush with the bottom of the frame. But anything is possible. :D You could always get rid of the t-case drop. :brows:

Yeah, when I say I prefer my radiator with the cap on it (not the full out conversion, just the later model radiator), I forget that my truck had that sensor in the radiator hose (which is apparently pretty odd).

Through a relay! Run it through a relay. :D
