  1. Likely that will mean 3.07. The numbers 30 and 7 seem a bit too low for Dana axles (though I'm no expert). If the tag uses the tooth counts, it'll be somewhere close to 40 and 10 41/10 = 4.10 41/11 = 3.73 39/11 = 3.54 I forget what the 3.07 numbers are.

You wouldn't be the first. :D Pay extra attention to cooling that beast. MJ/XJs have smallish engine bays and radiators, and owners who drop in v8s can have issues keeping them at a decent temp. And welcome! :wavey:

    can't decide

Since no one else seems to want the viper engine, can I have it? I promise I'll put it in my new 90. :D
  4. Can you crawl underneath and take some measurements?
  5. My 87-90 Jeep parts catalog also only mentions the 16, 18 and 23.5 gal tanks. :hmm: Any of you guys with the 13.5 ever run out of gas?
  6. I've now double checked my numbers with the dealership brochures, and there's no mention in any year of a shortbed fuel tank other than the 18 gal.
  7. Yeah, I have a feeling your axle is toast. :(
  8. Guess I forgot about that one. Serves me right for not checking my facts first. :shake:
  9. Questions should really get their own separate post so you have the best chance that someone who knows will see it. If you do find out what size it is, come back here and share.
  10. Probably won't matter. The 35 has structural issues that a good lube won't solve. I'd be looking into replacing it sooner rather than later if I was hauling a huge camper.
  11. There was only one size tank available under shortbeds (18 gal) and I only know of stock-size replacements. :(
  12. Looks like one. The gi-normous rusty intermediate plate is a good indicator of an AX series transmission.
  13. Dana 30 front, Dana 35 rear
  14. Excellent. :D Either the reverse torx is a 4.0-thing or maybe the previous owner simply replaced the funky bolts with regular ones (like I did on my trucks).
  15. Dana 35 rear end?
  16. Not sure how it works now, but early on, Rusty wasn't making Rusty's coils. I have the 3"-190# variety and love them. Although it only took one winter to turn the coating to rust, but that just means they match the rest of the truck, right? :D My rustys track bar bracket on the other hand...
  17. Not sure if XJs came with different color grilles, but they do interchange among same-era rigs. Floor pans under the seats are different, making seat swapping a bit more challenging, but not impossible. Roofs are different in contour too.
  18. You found an XJ with warn hubs? :hmm:
  19. I looked up 4x4 shops in the phone book.
  20. With stock rims, 30x9.5s are the biggest with no contact. With stock rims and a 4wd MJ, 31x10.5 can be done with minor rubbing on the control arms (which has a couple solutions). Bushwacker makes some flares.
  21. You certainly wouldn't be the first to do it that way. I wouldn't. I paid about $30 to get my 2wd shaft cut down to size. If you've got a 4.0/auto in your truck and you can find a rear shaft from a 4.0/stick, it's about an inch longer (assuming same bed length).
  22. I've discovered that the people that wheel tend not to bring cameras. Every time I've been wheelin', I'm the guy with the camera. I've got some vids, but they are stuck in VHS format until I can upgrade some of my computer equipment (don't hold your breath).
  23. Nope. We have a foot or so more wheelbase and so the driveshaft angels are much less extreme at 6". The rear driveshaft will be a bit too short though and there are a few different ways to fix that (retubing what you've got so it's the right length, shortening another longer driveshaft to the proper size, or buying a new one). But the SYE is still a good upgrade if you can float the cash for it and the new rear driveshaft.
