    WHY WHY WHY?

I would try deleting the site's cookies and starting fresh. I'm no computer genius, and I don't know what is going on, but that's where I would start.
  2. You could put your money towards getting it fixed up and running right, and then collect the parts as you go and lift it later on. That's what I did with my 88. I owned that 4wd trans and t-case for a good year or so before I was able to get around to the conversion. Heck, the truck itself sat for 2 years dead in the water (peugeot blew up) before I had everything I needed gathered together. :rotfl2: Keep your eye out for a cheap XJ with the 2.5 and 5-speed. Don't forget the ol' adage: Do it right, or do it twice. And Rob... chose my words carefully I did. :chillin:
  3. I run nothing. That's right, nothing. I used to run ad-aware every once in a while, but it hasn't found anything in over a year. I run Firefox, keep up on security updates for it and windows, take care with where my browser travels (especially important with the less computer savvy family members), don't open strange emails (I pay for my hotmail which it has a built in scanner, not sure if that's available on the free versions), and I approve/deny cookies as each one comes up. Am I just lucky? :dunno: I'm not stupid though, I use an external harddrive to back up important stuff from the 'puter (including a folder dedicated to downloaded programs like firefox, filezilla and ACDSee). I have no fear of wiping the whole thing clean and starting fresh. My computer came to me with Norton and it was became a real pain once the subscription lapsed. :fs1:

    WHY WHY WHY?

You're the first I've heard of. :dunno: The back button doesn't recover your post? What browser are you using? Does it sign you out? or what exactly happens?
  5. 5.5-6.5 inches over its current height. This could match anywhere from a 4.5 to a 7.5" front end lift kit depending on factors like spring sag, 2wd vs 4wd leafs, and the height of the new perches.
  6. In my humble opinion, 33s + 3.07s does not a decent wheeler make. :( I'm just saying, be prepared for lots of cursing when not in low range. I learned it the hard way, I'm just trying to pass on the experience. Are you doing this "on the cheap" because the truck was cheap? Or because your budget is really tight right now?
  7. Yeah, the shock mount plate was never designed to hold the leaf springs in place. It's just a shock mount. The other plate that tucks inside of it is what retains the packs. You got lucky for sure.
  8. Yeah, there's nothing really special about the bolt. Just be sure to get one of the right diameter and length (and Grade 8). Be careful when removing the old bolt. As jpdoc said, use a couple big C-clamps to hold it together and then slowly relieve the pressure. Be sure to inspect the leafs as you take the pack apart. I found a couple broken leafs in my 88.
  9. I used a two dollar brass 1/4"-5/16" compression fitting to adapt my '99 slave line to my '88 master line (AX-15 though I don't think that matters). Still working great after 7 years.
  10. I highly recommend all new hardware. U-bolts should not be re-used. And make sure you get a Grade 8 center bolt. I got a socket cap bolt (the one with the round head that takes an allen wrench) from the hardware store.
  11. Bummer. :( Well, my recommendation would have been to go find 4.10 axles, Dana 30 fro the front, and the rear being a 97+ XJ 8.25, Explorer 8.8, or MJ/XJ Dana 44 (which probably won't have 4.10s but is worth while to regear). Actually, that's still what I would do. There's nothing worthwhile in a Dana 35, even more so if it has 3.07 gears. :(
  12. Here ya go:
  13. What aspects failed?
  14. Save your money on the bolt on SOA kit. Welding on perches is super easy, just find someone that can do it. Muffler shops or the like will have a welder. Let's start at the beginning. What size tires are you looking to run? What type of wheeling? Any planned highway use?
  15. "Should" be the same for most years.
  16. Clearance under the tie-rod can be a very good thing. :D It's bad when your tie-rod frowns. :(
  17. When all 4 tires are rotating, but that is all that's moving. :shake: For example when the front axle is high-centered on a log. Or the tires need to be aired down just a wee bit more Or when you're following in the footsteps of 38" tires
  18. Even if it's rust-free now, it won't be for long if it ever sees winter. My 86 was rust free when I bought it (truck was from Cali, then spent a few years in Oklahoma, then brought to Michigan to die a slow death from the red cancer).
  19. Did you leave a club card behind?
  20. He's here. I just got an email from him. But for some reason the anti-spammer program thinks his computer has a virus and is being used by spammers :dunno: or something like that. We're looking into it. :typing:
  21. I think I fixed it.
  22. Heading home tomorrow. Will likely be offline until I get there. Sorry we didn't get a chance to hang out Bo. Maybe next time when I have more warning about the trip and can actually plan stuff. I didn't even get to a single junkyard. :(
  23. The Peugeot gets its bad rap because it was put behind an engine it was barely rated for. Maybe it'd last forever behind a 2.5L. :dunno:
  24. :dunno: Probably something I accidentally clicked. Wouldn't be the first time. :shake:
  25. How big of a tire are you wanting to run? And don't answer " as big as possible". Lifting the front end 6+ inches can be really expensive and really big tires can break your stock axles.
