  1. your drivetrain needs the extra leverage on those bigger tires. It's like having a too-short handle on your ratchet. It's harder to turn that socket. Whip out the breaker bar with the pipe extension and it's much easier to turn. Having gears not matched to your bigger tires is actually harder on your drivetrain (especially with regard to auto transmission fluid temps and manual trans clutches)

Sometimes the build sheet is behind the door panel, sometimes it's shoved into the underside of the seat. Usually it's looooong gone.
  3. nope. Go buy a complete donor XJ (that's in the best running shape you can afford). Gears are a better solution to power problems.
  4. To do the whole HO swap, you need to swap the entire wire harness out of the donor XJ, dash and all. what size tires do you have? What gears?
  5. I don't think so. :hmm: But the front end swap is almost passe these days. Plenty of them in the projects swap. Even mine: :D that's as far as it got. I just strapped it to the front with bailing wire. :laughin: I'm still looking for a pic of that red truck with the rear XJ lights. :typing:
  6. engine power will seek out the path of least resistance, in this case, the tire with the least traction.
  7. Why 93? 87-90 are the Renix years. Pretty much and HO 4.0 shortblock after that will need about the same amount of work to adapt.
  8. where are you located? This auction company in Colorado sometimes has wrecked CRDs. There are likely other similar companies across the country. klode.com
  9. In the offroading world, the open diff is usually preferred over the posi. "Why", you ask? Because now you can buy a "lunchbox" locker and install it in place of the spider gears. :D They are 2-3 hundred bux and a couple hours of your time. Look into the Aussie locker. They are the newest and arguably the best of the cheapie lockers.
  10. The front facelift has been done a lot. The interior much less, but still has happened. The rear lights, well, it has been done, but probably only a couple times.

If I remember right, it should be a sticker on the drivers door somewhere.

thinking that they may have more MJs there? :D I know they'll be rust free. MJ 86 came from OK.
  13. What he said. :D how much of a project are you looking for? Swapping to HO is a mostly bolt-in procedure, but it is a big undertaking and the truck will be down for a while.
  14. Awesome idea! I just might steal it for my 90. :D
  15. not a 1992 baby, but still awesome none the less. Ever since one of our members found one with a birthday in late April 1992, I've been on the lookout for other 92 calender year birthdays.
  16. there should be a number stamped on the ring gear. Otherwise, try to count the pinion gear teeth. deviding the two will give your ratio. If your ratio is indeed 3.55, I highly recommend finding a pair of 4.10 geared axles to counteract your bigger tires.
  17. Yup, early Dana 35s were not a C-clip design. do you know how to set up gears? if you broke your gears, chances are good that the housing is bent and you'll break the next set also. Do not spend money to fix that axle. Go find another.
  18. It's a math joke. you'll always get the same answer. :D
  19. the axles *should* have better gears than yours. check before buying
  20. someone once told me that a worn timing chain can cause blowby too.

If you want any of the stickers, just send me a PM with what you'd like.
  22. More than once I was told I was crazy. :D After 3k miles I almost made it all the way back. Got within 2 hours of home when the water pump bearings gave out.
