There are 3 components to a seat, the floor brackets, the sliding track, and the seat itself. The floor brackets are shared between the MJ bench and MJ buckets, but they don't share the track (the bench has half a track on each side). XJs and MJs have very different floors, so they do not share the floor brackets. But the XJ bucket track can be adapted to the MJ floor brackets. So to install XJ buckets, you need the complete XJ buckets, remove the XJ floor brackets, and attach the MJ floor brackets. But be aware that not all XJ buckets are made the same. There are 3 different types of track assembly, and 2 different kinds of seats. Track assemblies: -straight sliding -curved sliding -power the straight is the one you want. the curved will raise the seat up like 3" and the power assembly is huge and a real pain to install. As to the seat itself, 4-door XJ seats do not lean forward like MJ buckets. But 2-door XJ seats do. 2-door are preferred, but it's not a deal breaker if you find a nice set of 4-door seats. Several members have them and have gotten used to sliding the seat forward to access the rear area.

starting spitting out ring gear teeth on the way to work. turned out to be slightly bent too, but we don't know if the bend caused the teeth to go or if mye continuing to drive that last mile caused the housing to give. :yes: 4.0/2wd/stick/30" tires

Aside from the normal learning curve, those 3.07 gears aren't helping anything. :(

car-part.com should be able to find you some 4.10 MJ axles. But you really should look into an Explorer 8.8. Much stronger and common to find in 3.73 and 4.10. Yes they take a bit more work, but you shouldn't ever need to replace it again. :D

I like to be thorough. :D The floor brackets are the big missing part needed to mount up XJ buckets.

which year clutch did you get?

A donor Cherokee with the same engine/trans/era would probably be the cheapest. But then you're not upgrading anything. Picking and choosing your parts from the junkyard may cost a bit more (or be more work), but then you get better-then-stock stuff. I would focus on getting: -an AX-15 trans -axles with better gear ratios (at least 3.55) -np-242 t-case for allwheeldrive capability

how much was the bushing? I had 2 choices when I got mine. One was like $10 bucks, one was $2. The two dollar part was the correct one.

You're driving your new-to-you truck, yes? what size tires are on it?

does the bushing fit on the transmission input shaft?

I've seen 85 octane fuel for sale on my travels out west.

as you found out, 85 is too low. 87 is the minimum required octane. :thumbsup: You should be able to dump in a can of octane booster into the tank to get back to the proper rating.

Are you referring to the floor brackets? They are the same between the bench and buckets.

If you're referring to the multifunction stalk (that does turn indicators and ipers), it doesn't actually control the lights directly. It pushes/pulls on a long rod that runs down the steering column to the switch located down near the base. The rod in my 88 wasn't fully pushing on that switch and so for the longest time after I bought the truck, I had no highbeams. :(

I would shift the CAD over permanently, pull the vacuum hoses and PT bulb (and the shift bulb), and bask in the knowledge that I know more than my truck knows. :D

I don't remember anything about a change in t-case output spline counts over the years. Are you adding any lift? changing axles?

do you hear a click noise when you switch from high to low?

While I guess it's possible, I didn't experience any funny noises and I trimmed mine flush with the rubber bushing. :dunno:

I first thought you were near by, but then reread it and figured I shouldn't just assume where carelton was. :D
