  2. If you dropped the pan, you could see if there's any material lying in it. What's the fluid look like on the dipstick? red? brown? smells funny? Do you need this as a daily driver? or can it be out of commission for a while? If it comes to dropping the trans, be very careful with the dip stick tube. I've read that they are fragile.
  3. Just wanna make sure that a different used trans will fix the issues. that's a lot of work to go though if the problem lies elsewhere. :(
  4. the oil pump is actually pretty straight forward.
  5. how rusty is your Jeep underneath? Also, what makes you think the trans is toast?
  6. 86-90 XJs and MJs were available with the TBI 2.5L engine.
  7. according to google, that adds an hour and 20 minutes to the drive. :( Ouch. sounds like a lose-lose choice to me. possible traffic time, or guaranteed drive time. :( :( :(
  8. You're going to share that with us, yes? :brows:
  9. most parts in a 4.0 can easily survive 300k if properly cared for. But with that many miles, certain things like the timing chain, oil pump, and distributor gear can become regular maintenance items.
  10. If anyone can bring or borrow some Craftsman 19.2volt batteries, I'll be bringing my drill, right angle drill and sawzall with me and only have a single battery.
  11. I have an "open" radiator in my closed system. works great. :D
  12. I plan to do something like that once I can get a real website up and running. Tom Swatzell is first on the list. (those who were on the yahoo group back in the day should remember Tom). A great Jeep guy that passed on way too early. :(
  13. thanks. and for what it's worth, I also have a 21 spline np231, 88 AW4, and a pair of WJ lower arms if you guys know anyone that needs them and wants me to haul them there. I bet I'm up to 75% going. :D
  14. Good to know, but I can't make a decision about whether or not it's worth it without contact. :dunno:
  15. from the pub thread:
  16. It'll never happen. Jeep isn't allowed to have a truck anymore. :fs1:
  17. so did the gas in my neighbors lawnmower. still wouldn't start. dumped out the old stuff, put in new stuff from my can and bingo... runs great. :dunno:
  18. save image as... awesomeness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I'm still hoping for contact with the rolled MJ guy. :( If I'm going to a junkyard, I'll have my sawzall. :D problem is I have only the one functioning battery. :fs1: screw you Craftsman. Oh, and I just nabbed a pair of tires for the Dakota. :D I'm one step closer.
  20. how early can the junkyard possibly open? I don't function very well before 9 so i'm in no hurry to hit the junkyard before dawn. :(
  21. have you posted in the classifieds yet? also try car-part.com
  22. Depends on how you go about it. I redid the 88 using all pre-flared lines and piecing it all together (but I was installing Ford axles). On the 90 I bought bulk line, reused the nuts, and made my own flares (installing a late model booster at the same time and this was mucho easier than trying to find a whole bunch of standard-to-metric adapters).
  23. the CPS is located at the upper drivers side of the bellhousing and has a wire running from it to the engine bay.
  24. parts that are unique to the MJ can sometimes be harder to find (if you don't know where to look), but we share most parts with XJs, so those are plentiful.
  25. If you go with the widetrack version, then a great match is a rear Dana 44 from a 95ish v6 Isuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport. It's got disk brakes, same width and 6 bolt pattern as the widetrack Jeep, and comes with either 4.10 or 4.30 gears. The only glitch is the flange needs to be swapped for a U-bolt flange. Height numbers for springs are always a crapshoot. They all have a "range". Yeah, the hellcreek website isn't the greatest. :dunno: check the thread in the classifieds and send him a PM with your needs.
