which rear axle? be careful about deals that seem too good to be true. improperly set up gears can die in short order.

You should get a lift out of any of them. but precisely how much will depend on the sag in your leafs, and the sag in the new leafs. It's not an exact science. I built new packs for my truck from identical but rust free leafs, and gained a couple inches (that I didn't want). HellCreek sells an AAL made from an MJ main leaf that adds a inch or so. Comes with hardware too.

If you dropped the pan, you could see if there's any material lying in it. What's the fluid look like on the dipstick? red? brown? smells funny? Do you need this as a daily driver? or can it be out of commission for a while? If it comes to dropping the trans, be very careful with the dip stick tube. I've read that they are fragile.

Just wanna make sure that a different used trans will fix the issues. that's a lot of work to go though if the problem lies elsewhere. :(

how rusty is your Jeep underneath? Also, what makes you think the trans is toast?

86-90 XJs and MJs were available with the TBI 2.5L engine. :thumbsup:

most parts in a 4.0 can easily survive 300k if properly cared for. But with that many miles, certain things like the timing chain, oil pump, and distributor gear can become regular maintenance items.

If anyone can bring or borrow some Craftsman 19.2volt batteries, I'll be bringing my drill, right angle drill and sawzall with me and only have a single battery.

I have an "open" radiator in my closed system. works great. :D
