  1. you must buy or make brackets. the shetmetal that makes up our frames is not strong enough on its own to just bolt a hook on.
  2. what brand radio?
  3. don't forget that a lift is only part of the equation. axle strength and gearing are also important. 4.5" could be enough with some longer bumpstops, the right wheels, or some fender trimming.
  4. I wouldn't bother with the Peugeots. sell them for scrap and put that towards an AX-15. The Peugeot is notoriously hard to work on with no guarantee of success afterward.
  5. the factory didn't measure them that way: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11693
  6. almost. those aren't the right addresses. keep trying. you'll get it. don't forget to highlight the address, then click the IMG tag so it shows up as an image rather than a link.
  7. the spambots are chasing you? It was has been so nice for the last few months. one of the few plusses that came out of that ill-fated software update was a new and improved sign-in puzzle. but it would appear that they forces of evil have overcome it and now it's back to the same ol' same ol'. :fs1: until we get a new antispammer program again. :D the war rages on...
  8. axle center lines?
  9. the 242 will work great, and 96 should even have the sealed rear output.
  10. there are really only 3 different heights for MJs. 2wd, 4wd (1 inch taller), and the metric ton models seem to be a hair taller than their regular MJ counterparts due to the stiffer springs. but there were multiple spring part numbers used with minor differences (i.e 2.5L coils didn't have to hold up as much weight as 4.0L coils).
  11. I'm sure it's been done. gotta dump the gas tank so you can fit in a 4link. gotta design a 4link so it works properly and doesn't tear itself out of the uniframe. you could then hack off the back of the bed for 90* departure angle. and I'm sure you could get more flex. but my leafs work so dang well, I have a hard time seeing how much more benefit I'd get. :dunno: but then, I guess I don't tackle rocks at all.
  12. so clean...
  13. nah, it's a big chunk o' cast iron. there's really nothing fancy or hi tech about a 360. :D I wanna say a 4.0 weighs in at around 350 and the 5.9 at 550 lbs. could be wrong though.
  14. tire brand and style, rim width and backspacing, ride height, steering lock settings, etc, all have an impact when you're pushing the limits of tire size. lots o' variables.
  15. you probably did read that somewhere. I know I have. In fact, I think I read that on a tire manufacturers website. But our collective experience has shown otherwise. :D Is 31x10.5 on a 7" rim exactly perfect for the tire contact patch and sidewall bulge and the other specs that measure and bring forth the theoretical ultimate performance you can get out of a particular tire? might not be, but it's soooooo darn close as to be inconsequential in the real world.
  16. prepare for some disappointment. :( how big/small are we talking here?
  17. yes. what he said. sorry I only put in "axles" in step 2 and forgot to mention it by name. I did mean to swap out both axles together so that they have matching 3.55 gears.
  18. I don't think it's an XJ/MJ difference as much as an 86 vs later model difference or 2wd vs 4wd. I remember that I couldn't use my 2wd 88 yoke with my 4wd 99 t-case. Been a while, but I think it was a spline count difference. :dunno:
  19. I highly, HIGHLY suggest using this opportunity to upgrade. step 1: find XJ that had a 4.0/auto 2: grab the axles if they are in decent shape and come with brakes. 3: cut off the XJ brackets on rear axle (use any means you have, doesn't have to be pretty) 4: get perches welded on in the MJ location (perches are like $20 and welding can be done at any shop, like a muffler place.) 5: bolt everything in. 6: smile because the 3.07s are looooong gone. :D
  20. wow. didn't think I'd ever find another to add. The Ford Capri Comanche:
  21. what will you be adding to those coils to complete the frontend geometry adjustments?
  22. we had one guy recently that, for reasons that still escape me, found his driveshaft too short after a lift. :ack:
  23. glad to hear it's working properly again! :wrench: you might want to repost your new question as a new topic though.
  24. I had 30" tires on stock rims under my 2wd 88 with no lift. I wouldn't go higher than 2" pucks and the 2" chevy drop shackles (it's just coincidence that they also have a 2 in their name, since they were designed to, as you can guess, drop a chevy fullsize truck 2" and that same length shackle will raise and MJ 2" due to our different style of suspension).
