daveys still has some deals on parts if they have an overabundance of that part. Seems like their parts have been steadily climbing since extreme 4x4 bought that wrecked tj from them a couple years ago.

Jeep Comanche for Snow Plowing
oldrusty replied to tsa256's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a 99 f250 as a shop truck and my mj would plow circles around it. Last feb we got about 21" of snow in one weekend. The little mj plowed snow for 23 hours in two days. Never let me down once. The only changes Ive made to my truck were to replace the front shocks with a set of air shocks. I air them up to help carry the weight when the blade is on and air them down when its not. I also wired the electric cooling fan through a relay and a switch so that I can make it run constantly when I have the blade on as it blocks quite a bit of the grille when its raised..............here are a couple pics from last winter...... -
before you give up on an auto (cvt) tranny I would suggest riding a newer machine with a cvt. They have come a long way in the past couple years. I have a 2008 suzuki king quad 750 that I love. After riding the auto tranny I don't think I'd ever want to go back to shifting gears. All the major manufactures make very nice machines in the 400 to 500 cc machine range, but, the power of a big bore atv is very addictive.

very nice classic mopar  Glad I'm not the only one on here with a thing for mopar muscle cars.

Yup. nothing they did could get the 289 to keep up with that 440. big-blocks ftw! :D best lookin' mustang ever though. just needed some more horses. The chase scene from bullitt takes the cake in my book.....Although I seem to drawn to any movie/tv show with a big block mopar.....lol

I have a 18 volt Snap On 1/2 impact and its the cats behind....lol. Had it about 8 years now and the battery is finally starting to give up. Gun still works great but the battery won't hold a charge.....A new battery from snap on is about $140.00 and I considered just watching for one on ebay, but I could have used it 3 times this week already. Guess the snap on man is gonna get a little extra from me this week.

Want it Done Right - Do it Yourself ~ Painting
oldrusty replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't paint professionally but have been painting my own stuff for years.... As stated don't skimp on the prep work. Doesnt matter how good of job you do spraying the paint if you don't prep the surface correctly.....Single stage paints will be a bit cheaper but I prefer to spray base coat clear coat myself....You can also feel free to pm me with any questions along the way..........here's a quick shot of my last paintjob......Hoping to spray the mj this summer........ -
 Sounds like a plan The old plymouth might hold her own in a drag race but something tells me a twin turbo stang with upgraded suspension would clean my clock when things get twisty.......lol
-
There are quite a few of us on here with non jeep projects......Good score on the mustang. Ive been a fan of the fast back 'stangs for a long time.......here's a shot of my non jeep project....68 plymouth sport satellite.

we wound up with 18" on the gound here friday into saturday.....The "snow dozer" performed flawlessly.....ran for 13 hour straight on Saturday. Only time it shut down was to put gas in the tank.......(really wishing I had fixd that gas leak so I could put more than 5 gals in the tank)......lol........Plowed another 11 hours on sunday and 8 more today........Got another winter weather advisory for tomorrow into wed......calling for 8 to 10 more inches by wed and more possibly on thurs.................So so far the truck that I got for free 4 years ago has made me over $600.00 in three days...... :D :D :D :D :D :D :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: ......even plowed out the driveway for the guy who gave me the truck...... :D .......got some cool pics to post up and a couple vids ......maybe tomorrow.......going to bed.....

USE THEM btw...hope you don't have obese friends :rotf: ...may not end well LOL i keep meaning too but i always froget alright. this is my last real advice in this thread....I'm struggling ALOT to contain the things I really want to say. advice: in this type of fabrication/repair, you CAN NOT FORGET ANYTHING. period. no excuses...your excuses are growing very old and are the reason that there are now 12 pages of this thread of advice being ignored by you. I'm really sorry man, I had to say that...I don't dislike you, hate you, or feel anything negative towards you as a person...but this fabrication is terrible. it's NOT being done right because things keep being "forgotten". again...do it RIGHT or don't do it at all. -Pat :agree: :agree: ............ -
words of wisdom from mt grand father....... A tool for every job and a job for every tool............ If I told you how I fixed it ........you'd be as smart as me......lol

youll find your welds will come out much better and have better penetration if you clean the area your welding first. -

Little johnny kept telling tall tales in school.... His teacher decides to fight fire with fire and tell him a tall tale to show him how ridiculous it sounds.... The next day she calls Johnny up to her desk and tells him....... This morning I was on the way to work and I saw a little poodle dog chasing a black bear across a field.... That little dog chased the bear down and killed it......... ........Johnny replied....... I know thats my dog and thats the 3rd bear hes killed this week.......

another Johnny joke..... Little Johnny was in school one day when the teacher had a leeson on stories with a moral. At the end of the lesson the teacher told the class for homework they all had to make up a story with a moral. The next morning the class started sharing their stories.... Little suzie started...." Last night I was pouring a drink when the glass tipped over and my milk spilled on the floor..... I cried and cried cause I thought my mom would be mad." But she just wiped it up and it was ok" The teacher asked the moral of the story...... Suzie replied...."don't cry over spilled milk." This went on and on until Johnny was the only one left. Teacher asks Johnny what was his story...... Johnny replied..." My dad was trapped in a foxhole in the Iraq surrounder by 15 terrorist with just three bullets, a knife, and a fifith of jack daniels." Teacher says " oh my what happened?" Johnny says.."Dad downed the fifth of jack....jumped up and shot the three closest and killed the rest with the knife." Teacher says..."....um....ok......whats the moral to the story?" Johnny replied......."don't mess with my old man when hes been drinkin."

:agree: The best way to learn how to do it is to do it.....Just be open to the advice that others offer you...No one wants to see you give up. Maybe practice on a couple pieces of scrap of the same thickness to get your heat and wire speed setings dialed in before you start in on the truck. No one wants to make you mad or discourage you they just want to see you succeed. If you were closer Id be glad to come and give you some help but your a bit far from ohio...........and Ive got snow here to plow.....lol -

just remember that sometimes that criticism is justified......I remember fixing some projects when I was younger that :waving: the older guys told me were junk......I fixed them anyway....had lots of time and very little cash...lol. In the end what I should have done is listened.....I once bought a triumph spitfire that my dad said was a piece of crap. I knew the floors were bad when I got it but I could fix it.....I brought the car home and took off the hard top and for some reason the doors didnt want to shut........ :dunno: :dunno: .......I'm sure some of you guys know where this is going......The frame was so weak that the car was folding without the top for support....I patched it up and painted it and put it on the road.....sort of....I actually got to drive it abou2 and 1/2 days a week. Thw rest of the time I worked on it. I ended up selling it to a guy for parts about 3 months later.........God I still hate that @#$%^&**(&^&^%%$$$##@@@ car!!!!!!.......The only good thing that came out of that deal was that I learned some things arent worth fixing.......and.......I'll never buy another british car....lol -

Ok I have read along with this and havent chimed in but here goes........don't take anybody's criticism personally. Remember everyone likes to give advice. Here goes my 2 cents. Glad to see your going to redo your welds......Those were really not good. If you have trouble with burning through at higher heat levels try starting your weld "puddle" on the new plate and then move it to the original frame....I good tip I learned is if your running a good weld it will sound like bacon frying......I would also like to say plating over rust is NOT a permanent fix. It WILL rust through again. So go ahead and patch the old girl up. There is no better way to learn than by doing.....Just remember to be objective about the condition of your frame and the quality of your repair. -
About four years ago I was doing some landscaping for a guy my dad worked with. The first day I was there I noticed what I thought was a old xj sitting behind the garage covered with a tarp. I'm always looking 4 a cheap work car so I figured Id ask the guy about it. Fast fprward two days ....The job is done ......As hes paying me for the work I ask the guy I'm working for Whats the story on that old jeep? Guy goes on to tell me that his wife has been nagging about it for a while now. ......" I guess I'm just gonna junk it." I aked him what he wanted for it and he says just take it. I ran home and grabbed the trailer and when I got back he had it un tarped. Imagine my amazement when I discovered it was a lwb mj pioneer with a 4.0 to boot. It also has a rebuilt pukegoat with less than 2000 miles on it.(he still had the reciepts) I drug the old girl home and got to work. The truck had a bad d35 that was missing 6 teeth off the ring gear (the reason it was parked), and 2 bad fuel injectors. I replaced the injectors and replaced the d35 with a chry 8.25 from a xj with relocated spring perches and have been driving it ever since. Truck shows 212,000 miles on the odo and still runs like a top.
