There's a twitchy little fella down in Tidewater that has a whole XJ he needs gotten rid of for cheap/free. Only problem is that he wants 7/8ths of the stuff he bolted onto it, like all the engine accessories, full front suspension, and probably more. The deal is you get an AX15 out of it along with a 4.0 that has a spun bearing, and an XJ shell to deal with, somehow :clapping: Oh, and you have to go pick it up and haul it back to your place to dismantle it......and he's not willing to pay for gas. go to the RC website...they're having "deal of the day" specials. The DB's are one of today's specials. http://www.roughcountry.com/deal_a_day.html I might just go ahead and buy myself a set for Christmas  Jeff

Anyone running them? Do they fit MJ's? are they any good? I really need longarms...but they're running a special on DB's for $129.....thinking about a set to run until I get up the $$$ for LA's. TIA, Jeff

Sean, The 'yards down here in Richmond charge $99 + core for trannies and TC's. 98% of XJ's that come in are AW4/4.0's but they do get the occasional AX15. Speaking for myself, if I were buying either without having to remove them from the donor vehicle (like I would have to in the 'yard), I'd add $25-50 each for not having to drop them myself......depending on condition, I'd say $300 for the pair is fair in this neck 'o the woods  Jeff

you'll definately need the underhood wiring harness from an auto. It has an extra subharness that connects to the TCU and the tranny, and extra wiring for the second TPS output (which feeds info to the ECU/TCU for shift points). As well, you'll need the auto TPS that has that second output. You'll also need auto flexplate bolts in place of your manual flywheel bolts because they are shorter. I've got a spare set if you need them you can have if you want them. Jeff

Just remember it like a D30...driverside is the shorter side. If it's a complete axle, I won't be jerk and just pull one shaft....I'll leave it for someone who wants the whole thing. Gonna run down to my 'yard this afternoon and take a look around, haven't been there for awhile.... How often does your 'yard have 1/2 off days? Jeff

I could use the short side axleshaft.....what do they charge for just the shaft? Jeff

The big brown Jeep-parts delivery truck paid me a visit yesterday as I was pulling into my driveway after work. They're running 2 guys per truck, and they were hauling azz (had deliveries at about every third house on my street). I tried to slide them each $5 for beer money or something, but they wouldn't take it either. Must be company policy :dunno: Jeff

TJ vs. MJ or Cherokee Springs

X3 I'm running 5.5 TJ coils, gave me @ 4-4.5" lift. Jeff -
I don't have any experience with cables, but chains yes. Pros: they work in snow if you have a solid base to "dig" down to (i.e. blacktop, concrete). If the base under the snowpack is loose, they keep digging, and digging, and digging......especially with an open diff. You can get a decent set for less then $50, and purchase replacement cross-chains as needed. I used chains on my MJ when we first moved down here to VA and it was still 2WD, and drove circles around just about everyone in the couple big snowstorms we had several years ago (but that's not saying too much because NOONE here who is a native can drive in even a dusting :D ) Chains or cables, it doesn't matter, neither work in ice and shouldn't be used. Cons: Installation is a pain, but no different than cables. Especially if you've already got a ton of slush/snow/road crap already accumulated on your rig before you put them on. It can be a messy affair. Not recommended for running on dry pavement, work best if you are in a continual snowpack environment. If road conditions change as you drive and you hit clear patches, you need to keep speed down, and the cross chains will wear faster. Hopefully someone who's used cables will chime in and add to this. I would guess that chains would work better than cables, especially in deeper snow, but I couldn't say for sure as I've never used them. Jeff

if you're traveling via I95, gimme a holler when you're around Richmond. I'll buy ya a beer  Jeff

started it for the first time in two weeks, let it warm up in the driveway. Noticed a strong smell of gasoline and saw a growing puddle amidships.....fuel filter was leaking. Replaced filter and flexible lines to and from it, drove it around a bit, and reparked it for another couple weeks :( Jeff

Greg, Best one I ever saw down here since we've been here was ANIGAV. Think about it a bit, it'll come to ya Remember, we run both rear and front plates in the Commonwealth. Jeff

My ’87 has a black interior, it was an AMC thing….and a sunroof too (not sure if it is OEM or not). It's nice, but it turns into a pizza oven in the summer..... Jeff Image Not Found Image Not Found

4LO, put the e-brake on.....or not, if the rear isn't off the ground.

yup......mine's right around 5.5", just have to trim out the fronts a bit more. Jeff

Here's how it's sitting now, on 35's (don't want to hijack the OP's thread here). RE adjustable uppers, Rusty's (I think) fixed LCA's.....I'm going longarms here in the near future, the shortarms are functional but pretty rough riding, and the LCA's are limiting droop.
