'91 Speedometer Issue... Does Not Read
HOrnbrod replied to neohic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Before pulling the VSS, please check all the obvious first. Like continuity between the VSS connector and the ECU (there are a few connectors along the way), and continuity between the distance sensor and speedo. Also make sure the screws on the back of the speedo (and the other gauges while you are in there) are clean and tight against the flex-foil on the back of the cluster. Check to be sure the speedo gear is set correctly in it's proper tooth count slot so it will engage the distance sensor gear. These can all trigger a code 5 CEL fault too. When I bought my truck years ago the speedo wasn't working. I did all of the above first with no joy, then finally replaced the VSS in the AW4 as a last resort, which did fix the problem. It's pretty easy to get to on the 2WDs. http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm -
New To Mj's Looking At One This Week.
HOrnbrod replied to 01yellowxj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, you are being fooled by these stellar braking results only because you have to apply less pedal pressure. Maybe I am too. Didn't someone say that? -
Don't agree on that one mate.

I like what you've done with the load sensing valve linkage.

A little bigger! I've never been real into pumpkin carving. Not sure why. Maybe the smell? Mess? Or the fact your creation is a puddle of mush in a few weeks. I think Pete should carve the CC logo in a pumpkin! No 87Warrior. The below is a little bigger. Your's is a LOT bigger.

How To Measure Stock And/or Lifted Height
HOrnbrod replied to Keyav8r's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fred, most info like this I try to sticky in the DIY forum for quick reference. I like onlyinajeep726's post better though because of the pics, so I'll sticky that in the DIY forum too. http://comancheclub.com/topic/11098-how-to-measure-ride-hight/ -
The 95/96 XJ booster/master is a designed fitment for the same firewall our MJs have. The WJ stuff is not. So mods have to be made to retain correct pedal level and brake switch activation clearances. But since I haven't done a WJ swap into an MJ, WTF do I know? Others have so they can answer mo betta than I.
-
I opted for the proven easy way out and used the 95/96 XJ booster/master combo for my swap because I knew it was a true bolt-on application for the HO MJs w. zero problems. And with the spacer I knew I didn't have to beat on the lip or anything else to make it fit. Before I did it though I researched everywhere to see if the WJ booster or any other application was "better" for some reason, and I found nothing. I am very satisfied with the 95/95 XJ booster/master combo swap, along with the Explorer rear disks. They compliment each other. The MJ brakes perform as well as our new JK and everything else I've driven since. However, I'm always open to braking improvements of any kind, and welcome them. Like the 2000 wrangler booster/master combo mentioned above. Go for it. I don't know how it could be documented as "better" than the 95/96 XJ swap though, unless you have had both applications on the same vehicle and can do an informed comparison evaluation. Until I see something like that, I'm sticking with what I have.

Sounds to me like you need to wait then, hold out until you find the one you want  But if you HAVE to have one the 92 all the way...Just because its a 92 lol Sounds to me like waffling. -
Track Bar Bracket Stud Plate?
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ah yes, this is true. There must be a reason though, and I seriously doubt it's for saving factory assembly time. -
Track Bar Bracket Stud Plate?
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks. I checked the manual for the 87s: The stud plate was used for 87's w. the 2.5; the reinforcement bracket was used for those with the diesel engine. For some reason only the flange bolts were used for the 4.0 until the later years, about 1996 and up, when they started using the stud plates on all models and reinforcement bracket on some models. According to the factory parts manuals. The track bar bracket itself changed throughout the years also. Not consistent at all. :dunno: :hmm: -
Track Bar Bracket Stud Plate?

Am going to jack her up tomorrow, let the wheel hang and see if I can persuade the problem bolt out around the coils. We'll see............ -
Don't give up hope. Look what the Sox did in one year. A simple managerial change dumping the waste POS Bobby Valentine turned everything around.

I had a couple of MJ NOS accessory rear mud guards as pictured with instructions (sold long ago). The cutout in the rubber fits around and under the rear panel behind the wheel well. You can just see the left rear installed as per the instructions on the below old pic.

Understand Jay. Now they have lost the great Nolan too. I suspect he got sick of the front office politics.

Yeah right. They finished 2012 dead-last in the AL East. This year they run away in the AL East, then cruise by Tampa Bay 3-1 and Detroit 4-2 in the playoffs. Luck had nothing to do with it mate.

Track Bar Bracket Stud Plate?
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Jim. I saw that the spacing is the same for both the upper and lower mounting holes. Unfortunately I can't use it on either position. On the 91-93 models with the I6, the lower mount of the track bar has a weldnut on one of the inside holes, so separate bolts have to be used. The stud plate will work for the 2.5 engines however since they don't have a weldnut there. On the upper mount, I'd have to pull the coil spring to remove one of the bracket mounting bolts, and I'm not about to do that. :fs1: Anyone need a brand new track bar bracket stud plate? Cheap? -
Track Bar Bracket Stud Plate?
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Regarding the track bar bracket, I'm going to replace the upper and lower mounting bolts. I've installed track bars but never pulled the TB bracket. For those who have done this, if I pull the two upper bolts leaving the two lower bolts and the track bar snug and tight, will the bracket stay in place so I can install the two upper bolts w/o shifting? Maybe a semi-stupid question, but since I haven't done it, :dunno: -

A Carolina truck (I think) with proven low mileage and the Carfax checks out, yes that's an excellent price. -

I'd run a Carfax on it before buying. Anybody can swap in a different cluster.
