no voltage at the fuel pump ?????
ratrapp replied to wannabeMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
check your ground to tailight harness.the pump grounds itself through the tailight harness. -
i never expected increased power from a water pump.i was needing to replace my leaking pump and simply wanted to upgrade to a better pump.i did call when i noticed the pump was leaking and they said it had no warranty as it was a performance part and that was that.i don't blame them for the t-stat anyway as they don't make the t-stat,just sell them.like i said maybe i got a bad batch of parts and everything else they sell is great but the piece that really got me was the tps adapter.for the price of that little chunk of aluminum they don't even give you longer screws that you need and it won't allow proper tps adjustment without slotting your tps.i wouldn't be mad if it cost $50 and you had to modify it but i think i gave over $120 for it a year and a half ago.for that price it should be perfect.

i'm not saying there stuff is junk, maybe i just got a bad batch of parts.i was just wondering if anyone else has had bad luck with there products.

last year i ordered a few things from hesco.i got a hgh flow waterpump, high flow t-stat housing and t-stat and the pricey hesco tps adapter to use ho throttle body with a renix sensor.the t-stat housing kept leaking so i had to have the machine shop resurface the housing so it was true and no more leaks,no big deal.the t-stat stuck shut and failed within a year,i replaced it with a mopar piece, once again no biggie.the high flow waterpump has seeped ever since i put it out of the weephole until the seep turned into a leak so i replaced it with a new gmb pump, starting to get a little upset now considering the price of the pump.the final straw has been the tps adapter.i've had a few idle problems ever since i installed the adapter.i blamed it on not being able to get the proper tps voltage because i figured that my tps was going bad.i purchased 2 at the pnp and neither one would go down far enough.my voltage would not go below 1.15 volts at idle.i bit the bullet and purchased a new mopar tps for $120(Ouch) and it also wouldn't go below 1.15 volts so i had to take dremel and slot my brand new factory tps sensor to get the tps down to .90 volts.idle problem gone and tranny shifts good again.maybe i got a bad bunch of parts and the rest of the stuff is great but i'm very dissapointed.what pissed me the most is the waterpump has no warranty and i'm surely not going to buy another one.i can buy 3 gmb pumps for the price of one hesco and at least they have a one year warranty.just want'ing to hear anybody else's experinces with hesco.

swapping the intake to a 99-up didn't do much for me.i swapped to a fresh ho head (93 model)and 99-up intake and newer tb all at the same time.besides fixing a leaky headgasket and replacing my noisy lifters it really didn't do anything.maybe the intake helps if you've got an oversize cam or head work but on a stocker it's not worth the money.

Head gasket preference?
ratrapp replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i used the mopar mls metal gasket last year when i swapped to a ho head on my truck.no leaks and was a few thousands thinner than the stocker for a shade more compresion(not that i really felt it).most newer vehicles all have some kind of metal headgaskets on them from the factory anymore.doesn't mean they're any better or worse than paper gaskets. -
as i said once before,i'll be down for a set of brackets to put zj seats in a mj.i already have factory buckets, just want a newer seat that's not worn out and my local j/y is full of nice zj seats.
-
does anyone know if mopar still has a factory tps sensor for renix 4.0 with a/t?i've tried several j/y sensors and they either don't last or aren't very good.i hate aftermarket sensors(especially for renix).it's an 88 model as well, thanks

joints are not servicable,sorry.
-
mine didn't leak until i changed the balancer.had to do the job again.
-
block the vacuum off to the booster and see if it goes away.if so then you've got a bad booster.
-
i would definitly buy a set if you made a set to bolt factory zj seats in.my factory mj buckets(especially the drivers side)has had it.

WANTED: JCR LWB ROCKSLIDERS AND REAR BUMPER, IL/WI BORDER.
ratrapp replied to Automan2164's topic in Wanted
makes me glad i got my bumpers while they were still making them.can't really blame them for not making them anymore.how many rear mj bumpers did they really sell?many people say they'll buy them, but just talk or don't have the funds.besides after one person on this board bitched about them and all it takes is one person to file a lawsuit who could really blame them.i used to be into ford turbocopes and parts were the same way, people asked for them, somebody stepped and reproduced them and they didn't sell many and are now out of business. -
hokie83,you've probably just got a bad nss on your truck if it's an aw4.i had to replace mine several years ago.they are pricey,or you could just tie into the connector under the hood and use a toggle switch.i've done it for several customers with mj and xj's that couldn't or wouldn't pay several hundred dollars for a new switch.

Broken tailgate lever...
ratrapp replied to Dirteatr717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i don't know about the s-10 handle.i bought a new one from the parts store and it wouldn't fit my tailgate, maybe others have had better luck.i got lucky and got an excellent used chrome one from a member here. -

Any body use these Bumpers?
ratrapp replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i've got there front and rear bumpers and really like them, especially the front.my only complaint is there bumpers are built only when ordered,so expect 2-3 week wait. -
my renix has a fresh tune up(plugs, cap, rotor, wires are mopar units only a few years old)and it has new 02 sensor and tps sensor.also upgraded to the new 4 hole injectors,k&n filter, redline synthetics in the differentials and t-case and it still doesn't get the mpg that my gf's zj does.my grandmother has a 96 zj with 3.55 gears in it nad it gets even better gas mileage than my gf's zj.on the interstate my mj gets maybe 15-16,gf;s zj gets around 20,grandmothers zj gets 21-22.when i figure mpg,i fill it completely up drive a distance, refill and divide.you cannot go by gas gauges as we all know mj gas gauges aren't the greatest.also somepeople don't take into consideration that different size tires and axle ratios aslo mess with the mileage recorded.i had to change my speedo gear in my truck to compensate for going from 215/75s to 235/75s.i had a buddy whos a state trooper clock me to see how close it was.i was less than 2 mph off afterwards.this truck barely got more mpg than this when it was new.my grandmother booght it with only 8k miles on it and it was only a year old.it now has 180k and still going fine.
-
if i had another vehicle to drive i would definitly swap to a ho.i've got a 88 renix with ho head and 99-up intake and atp ho style header and 2 1/2 exhaust and k&n filter.it's got 180k miles on it.my gf's 95 grand cherokee has 4.0 ho and has 200k miles on it.her vehicle has way more power and gets 5 more mpg on the interstate(15 versus 20).we have the same size tires and i know the zj definitly ways more than the mj.my truck has 3.55 gears versus 3.73 in hers but i can't see .18 in gear ratio making that much difference in power and mpg.the chrysler pcm programming is definitly superior to the renix stuff.i worked at a jeep dealership for 5 years and after all the xj,zj,mj and wj's i've drove the renix ones were definitly on the lower end of the pole on mpg and power.

my question is what kind of alignment shop suposedly aligned your truck with bad ball joints and track bar?

loud backfire on 4.0-HO 5spd
ratrapp replied to airspeed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the only o2 sensors i use in my shop are oem sensors or the bosch brand since they make most of the oem sensors for chrysler. -
tailight ground was definitly your no fuel pump problem.i swapped beds on my mj last january and i removed the bed and backed the truck out to pressure wash the frame off first.truck started and it backed out about 50 feet and stalled out.i couldn't hear the pump run.well i cleaned the frame off and we pushed the truck back in the shop and put my new bed back on it.i went to see why it wouldn't start and then i heard the fuel pump come on.amc in there wisdom grounds the fuel pump through the tailight harness.i love engineers.
