after many years of missing my 88 i picked up an 86 2.8 mj 2wd for 300 bucks.it has been sitting for about 5 years but i got it running.i bought a new fuel tank and vent valves for it but rodents have chewed all of the hoses away and was wondering if anyone knows where the vent hoses hook to or have a vacuum hose diagram for it.i replaced the old carb with a new weber but it needs alittle fine tuning.thanks

I've used clr to help clean them out.i run it about a day or two then flush it out.a mechanic at a truck shop showed me this as he regularly does this on big road tractors.

Bd Motor Mounts - Rubber Or Poly?
ratrapp replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
yeah my oem mounts lasted almost 20 years and they broke.i replace them with the anchor brand and within 3 years it pulled the stud through the driver side mount.i found the brown dog mounts and figured i would give them a try.i ran steel motor mounts on my 68 nova and they didn't vibrate like the brown dogs.i run all poly mounts on my 88 mustang and it has very minimal vibration, nothing like the brown dog mounts.i replaced the inserts with the rubber style that brown dog offers and they are only marginally better than the poly ones.for a trail rig i'm sure they're great but suck on a daily driver.very soon i'm just going back with some cheap o anchor mounts and if i have to replace them every couple years then i'll deal with it. -
Bd Motor Mounts - Rubber Or Poly?

i just switched to the rubber inserts and they suck as much as the poly ones despite following all the instructions.i'll be switching back to rubber oem style mounts soon.i'm sure you'll never break the mounts but for an everyday truck they just plain suck.i've ran poly mounts on my 88 mustang and it doesn't shake nothing like these do. -
Trimming Front Fender For New Bumper
ratrapp replied to Timmmmmy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i just cut mine flat with a sawzall.i worked very slowly as not to to jerk the fenders and didn't use a cutoff wheel tool or it would've burnt the paint. -

Hp Upgrades Without An Engine Swap
ratrapp replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i swapped a 99-up intake with a ho head and it didn't do much of anything but i think the intake helps on a stroker but not a stock 4.0 -
Bd Motor Mounts - Rubber Or Poly?

i got the brown dog mounts and they offered 2 different kinds of ply mounts.i got the stiffer style and really wish i hadn't.it vibrates alot,it causes everything to rattle in the jeep that didn't before.i replace the tranny mount with a new srtocker and it helped some but not enough.next time i think i'll get there softer inserts and try them. -
i agree,i did the 96 booster/master cylinder upgrade and it was one of the best things i've ever done to the mj.it's well worth it in my opinion.

Dual diaphragm Upgrade part question.

the 95-96 is definitly the easiest way to go.i didn't change any brake rod or such.i got the complete booster/master cylinder, valve, lines and spacer from the salvage yard for $40.all i had to do was slightly grind the rod for the renix brake light switch to work.i had already moved the wiper jug in the fender using the 97-01 ckerokee parts. -
i've dealt with the anchor brand on my aw4.in the last 12 years i've replaced it 3 times but ther're not expensive and advance auto keeps them in stock.now on the other hand the tranny mount failed on my gf's 95 zj and caued the cat to crack and break off so i replaced it with a mopar unit.the original lasted almost 200k miles and i'm sure the mount will end up outlasting the rest of the jeep or at least the 42re transmission.

Newer style Valve cover question
ratrapp replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
just grab the mounting bolts and use the newer style gasket.i did this on my mj amd my gf's 95 zj and it significantly reduced blowby in the breather box. -
Fuel injector leaking questions.
ratrapp replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you do realize that the precision injectors aren't new.they are used, tested injectors with new o-rings and pintle caps.i bought a set last year from him. -

i didn't use the floor mount pieces because our pnp frowns upon cutting sheetmetal out(why i don't know),i used a combo of factory floor mj pieces and the xj pieces. -
i was at the local pnp saturday and found a near mint gray cloth 97-01 xj bucket seat set.since they were only $30 a piece i grabbed them.i have been looking for the past 2 years for a decent set of mj or up to 95 xj buckets and they're either already gone or somehow in worse shape than my buckets.i knew from people on this board that the 97-01 buckets would make you sit slightly higher but i thought i could live with it.after about 2 hours with a welder and some scrap metal sunday i got the drivers seat in.i'm slightly less than disappointed in how it feels.i'm 6"2 and it just doesn't feel right driving init now.the headrest sits at the same height as the factory mj bucket but the bases are just too tall for a mj floor.has anybody else done the 97-01 buckets and regretted it?if so what kind of seats did you use then?i may weekend after next try and cut and weld some differnt brackets and see if it will feel better.i wish i would have just left my worn out mj bucket in it now.the seats felt nice in the xj i pulled them out of but not so much in my mj.
