Noob Installs a Manifold Gasket . . .

Ive seen 4.0 engine and trans mounts so bad that the hanger for the exhaust is touching the crossmember. If theyre bad just use regular rubber mounts. If you don't want vibrations then above all else don't use the brown dog urethane mounts.I put a set on my old 88 mj and i couldnt stand it.Ive had solid mounts in race cars that didnt vibrate that bad. -

possible motor mounts or tranny mount can make it vibrate at idle . -

Thats one less thing that it can be then.Have you actually tried to drive it yet? -

If it runs better unhooked then thats your problem. If it runs the same then probably not.Unhooking an o2 sensor won't suddenly flood or lean out a vehicle.I worked on a toyota tacoma that idled like it had an oversize cam in it.Fuel trim was crazy numbers.I unhooked it and within 15 seconds it idled smoothly and i drove it around 10 miles.I replaced the o2 sensor and ran fine.I'm trying to give you as many suggestions as possible but not being there to see it all any of us are doing is giving you opinions and best guess's. -

The reason i want to take my weber off is I'm less than happy with it.In its defense i havent had the time to seriously adjust on it and it was definitly better than the gm pos that was on it. -

I worked for a jeep dealer from 96 thru 02 so i do have alittle experience working on 4.0 jeeps. If you unplug and it runs better then look at the o2 sensor,if it runs the same then its probably doing its job.I'm sure you don't have access to an obd 1 scanner to verify if its working right or not so this is the easiest way to do it. -

If you don't have a converter that rules that out.If you have an o2 sensor thats stuck either full rich or full lean it'll run like crap. When you unplug it when its cold it will go to neutral usually and tell you if its the problem. -

DId you try removing the o2 sensor out of the pipe and seeing if it runs better? You could have clogged the cat up when it was running so bad.If it revs up fine with the o2 removed then you know the cat is clogged up.Thats something easy to check and eliminate a possibility. -
good luck.my tab broke hooking up my weber carb.i couldnt find one anywhere.

Did you ever reinstall your original unmodified cps and just hard wire it?Once again if it ran fine before go back and look at your previous repairs. -

its not odd that it cuts off spraying cleaner down the tb at idle.its simply getting too much fuel and not enough air. -

If its running fine i would leave it alone. If its not broke then don't fix it. -

An easier fix would be to just knock out the studs and just replace them with regular nut and bolts if the studs arent readily available. -

Pretty sure they're studs installed in the manifold. They shouldnt be welded. -

I worked at a jeep/chrysler dealer from 96-02 and we only seen 1 renix icm fail.I thought that was pretty good. -
i didnt know of any carbs but the factory or the weber kit.i would gladly adapt something else or if could find one of the older 4 barrel intakes i would put one of my spare holley sniper kits on it.i can't find any 4 barrel manifolds anywhere.i know they discontinued them several years ago at edelbrock and probably don't blame them.

if the bolts loosen on the intake side then yes it can cause running problems.exhaut leaks close to the o2 sensor can cause probelms as well.cleaning the tb will only affect idle.it has no effect whatsoever as far as the actually running.if it carbons up on the blades or the sides it can affect idle or cause a sticky throttle but thats it.its not like the newer vehicles with electric throttle control.a bad tps can cause running problems but cleaning the tb itself won't.just like your iac valve it only controls idle functions like cold start up,a/c kicking on etc.
