Yeah, that's one very rare example of a great condition Eliminator. If you have the urge to mod it, put it out there for some sort of trade deal if need be, maybe you can find a trail rig MJ someone's willing to "shift gears" with and keep that Eliminator pristine. Super nice score either way.

I'm really beginning to stick to the 4x4 idea. I'm thinking it should be easy to find a WJ low pinion D30 with the big brakes and CV's and a 242. Probably put the work into dropping the control arm mounts an inch or so - mostly to give that driver's side UCA mount and the motor mount a little more room and better arm angles. Steering will be simplified using tube and rod ends. I'm thinking I should be ok to stick with a stock track bar, but might look at putting a large rod end in place of the tie rod end. Maybe just shorten an RE aftermarket adjustable track bar and put a bolt box on the end of a stock track bar frame bracket. Also, having run some auto cross in the SRT8 events....... I'm gonna remove my side mirrors and put one of those long multi view mirrors in the cab. Those door mirrors really get in the way when you're looking for the cones.

Got the annual notice to get this rig emissioned and registration renewed......... ugh. Always the dreaded "Will it pass?" anxiety..... So, today I dragged it out of storage and ran it down to the sniffer station. While waiting, I surf Craigs and I come across a fiberglass air dam for an early '90's S-10. It REALLY looked like it could work as an option for the $400+ Archer reproduction......no not even close in appearance, but definitely in function. Guy was asking $100 and willing to meet me after my emissions test. I go out and look it over put it in front of the truck and I think I can make it work. I offer the guy $40 and he takes it! It's designed to go over the original S-10 bumper so my first fitment will be to take off the end caps and bumper pads and see if it'll hang on the MJ bumper and how it looks. I think the first set of indentations (for S10 turn signals) may interfere with the bumper so I may have to cut some clearance holes in the bumper. If it looks good that way, I'll have to shorten the ends that go back to the fender wells. They're about 3"- 4" too long. If I don't like how it looks covering the bumper, then I may hang it from the bottom of the bumper and cut off that lowest part of the dam where the 2 narrower indentations are. The turn signal indentations could make for some nifty brake cooling vent intakes......... Unfortunately, the guy couldn't remember the manufacturer of this bumper cover, he customizes trucks and said this got stashed in his garage attic for years........ I'll see if I can find something out about it. oh and the truck passed with flying colors....... :D Anyway, here's a couple pics of it sitting in front of the MJ:

I respectfully disagree..... a little bit. This is all subjective, but if the paint and body that got done to it since it first had been advertised is worth a damn, that's $2800 just in paint and body. The limited text conversation I did have with the guy did include that before he would sell it cheap, he would fix the front hit and paint it. From what I can tell from the pics, looks like a decent job. But a guy does need to remember, this is a 2wd truck as well........ The salvage title thing doesn't bother me a bit when in regards to a vehicle I plan to keep and use. I suppose certain states with inspections could complicate this.... but in Colorado, salvage title cars that have been repaired and have the State inspection seal plate affixed to them are to me - a nice big discount coupon. The only real issue I see about salvage titles is if you want to finance the purchase...... and we all know there are no banks that will finance a Comanche, no matter the pristine condition or appraisal value. I think his asking price isn't far off the mark. If he'd take $2200....... I'd be a buyer with a big grin. Remember, for the most part, Texas vehicles are nice and dry. This one might have very pretty floors and rockers/ cab corners.........

Just putting a 4.0 engine in it is one thing....... but are you also wanting it to be fuel injected? That's a whole 'nuther situation. I say keep the 5.2, rebuild it, get a rebuilt carb or, better yet, a mild cam, Edelbrock 4bbl intake and carb set and a GOOD fuel filtration system.

Yeah, there's some aesthetic differences, guess it comes down to personal preference.

Or........... You can just sand the ridge off the top edge of an MJ flare, finish sand with finer grit, prime and paint. They're plenty thick and will take sanding material off very nicely. A whole lot less work than all that piecing together, then plastic and metal welding.

Yeah, nothing similar about the Camaro battery install and an off road truck with a winch. The camaro relies on the battery for a quick turn of the starter. I'm talking about sustained pulls to un-stuck one's MJ. I've run hard core trails and been massively stuck and I was able to get an Optima smoking and melted the led terminals..... and the battery was in the stock location with stock gauge cables. I can only imagine the loss in performance and taxation of the power having to power a winch through 20' of large gauge welding cable. This required A LOT of winching....... using my Warn 9500....... and two other winches from above me...... :nuts: Hot winches and batteries make ..... "unique"....... smells...... :yes:

Wondering about operating a winch with the battery mounted that far away with such big cables....... Wouldn't the battery work harder and the draws be increased when winching?

Not the best looking as the wheel opening lip doesn't match the lines it should. I know.... Picky-picky. The price is VERY reasonable. Someone's gotta want this stuff...... Well the tag on the valve cover does indeed indicate that at least the engine is a '92. (the "2" above the "YR")

I've got an '88 short bed 4cyl, 5 spd 4x4 red wirh tan interior. Topper and plastic bedliner. Minor floor rust but clean body with minor dents. Same as Jim, its not running (bad engine) but I have an engine for it i can install.
