Should I get these '97 doors? short timeframe. prices??
johnnyc replied to Sir_Brando's topic in The Pub
Replacing the regulators in 97+ XJ doors is super easy. And why would anyone want 97 ZJ doors?? They won't fit anything...except another ZJ. ;) -
Inside diameter is 2.75 inches. Diameter of the threaded bolt can be 1/2", 9/16", or 5/8", depending on how strong you want them to be. The length should be about 8 inches. If you find some that are longer, you can always trim them.

Definitely open for street Comanches. That's why I don't want to do it at an offroad location. It will definitely be on asphalt. :D

Doubt that Angel Stadium would let us do it on their property. ;) I'm thinking of a location where there is food or where we can have a BBQ, maybe a park. I had thought of T&J Performance. I know Tom that works there. Or I know the owner of Rebel Off Road and the owners of Outlaw Off Road.

Looking for MJs in the Greater Los Angeles/San Diego area for an MJ Meet and Greet. It would probably be sometime in the spring or early summer. Site to be determined. But it will be in the LA/Orange County area. I think we can get 10-15 MJs to attend. That would be one of the largest (if not the largest) gatherings of MJs in many years. I've been in contact with an offroad magazine and they said they may be interested in coming out to shoot some pictures. I want to gauge your interest in participating. And also looking for ideas on location. It would likely be on a Saturday. I've sent a PM to the SoCal NAXJA MJ owners that I am aware of. I know that there are some San Diego County MJ owners out there too.

IIRC, I got the spring perches and shock mounts from Ruffstuff. -
Rubicon Rims and Tires?
johnnyc replied to CubsCarAudio's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They're not 17s. The 97-06 Rubicon wheels are 16s. I used to have those wheels with 245/75/16 tires on my MJ. But I had to do a budget boost to lift the Jeep a couple of inches. -

97-06 have the same bolt pattern as our MJs. -

Alloy USA Chromoly Axle Kit for Dana 44
johnnyc replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm pretty sure it'll fit, Don. I have the Alloy USA 33-spline Dana 44 shafts (part #12136) and they are listed for the 97-06 TJ as well. This place has just the driver's side shaft for $143. http://thejeephut.com/alloy-usa-precisi ... 27495.html -
Cigarette Lighter/Not Working
johnnyc replied to jeeplover88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I hardwired one of these into the Jeep. It's got three outlets and a USB port that's blocked by the shifter. -
Yeah, I like the way the red letters look with the red truck. I think they look a little funny with any other color truck.

Not completely correct. There were 952 MJs produced in the 1992 calendar year. That's January 1992 thru May 1992 (by most accounts). There were many more 1992 MJs produced in the 1991 calendar year. Like my 92 that was made in October 1991.

I've had a Helicoil in each of my knuckles for about six years now. They still use the factory bolts. -

When we did the Rubicon Trail in '09, I saw that MJ at the Loon Lake staging area. As we worked out way across the slabs, I ran into my buddy Scott who works at RE. He and a friend were riding these mini dirt bikes and they had brought them out in the MJ. I'm pretty sure they use it as a shop truck.

Yeah, I have the McGard nuts. They cost a little more, but they're strong and don't lose their finish. Gorilla nuts (sounds funny) are also decent.

Finally took out the neutral safety switch and cleaned it up. Now it starts as it should, but we couldn't get the reverse lights to work. Gotta check out the wiring. It's tough to work in this brutal 80 degree weather though. 8)

It'll be 77 degrees in sunny Orange County tomorrow. But I did go snow wheeling this past Saturday up in Big Bear, two hours away.

Your 92 is an HO, the 87-90 are Renix. So they are two different headers. FWIW, I've had the same Borla header on a 96 XJ, 98 XJ, and now my 92 MJ.

I've put 6.5 inch speakers in my 96 XJ, 98 XJ, and 92 MJ. And I've never had to trim any metal. Just drilled some new holes to center the speaker in the opening. And you don't have to use the aftermarket grilles. Just install the speakers, then put the door panels over them.

Went to play in the snow. First run with the new BFGs.

PowerTrax No slip In Dana 30 Opinions Experience
johnnyc replied to skidoo_j's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've had a No-Slip in my D30 for about 6 years now. I haven't had any problems with it. I did have to change the springs once. I don't lose any turning radius when in 4WD. I don't drive a lot on icy roads. But the few times that I have, I didn't notice any abnormal behavior. While I would definitely recommend the No-Slip to others, I personally wouldn't buy another one. When my No-Slip finally gives it up, I'll probably get a Detroit. -
Yeah, that's a factory dimple. I've heard people say that it's for driveshaft clearance. I had the local muffler shop make me a new one when I put my Borla header on.
