Door Hinge Pins and Bushings
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Took the word of the parts guy at the jeep dealership that "bushings were no longer available" for pre-91. No bushings, eh? According the that same parts dept., the later hinges replace the older, so maybe they went to pins and bushings since that's what they show for the later models. Wonder if I could drill out to the busing size and install later pins and bushings? Have to see. Or, do the bolt thingie. -
Factory Door Hinge repair plates
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Maybe didn't 'splain well. Sorry 'bout that. Of course the dealer would order the part from the warehouse, get it in, and add 10% to what it cost them (dealer cost) and sell it to the customer for that price. Didn't know if the warehouse could drop ship to customer instead of having to ship to dealer. Probably not. Probably the way it would be done to save special order freight cost is when the order is received from a customer, it would be shipped with regular stock order. When I worked at a Ford Parts Dept, we did a lot of that for customer parts. But, as with "Megan Joy," a back plate is a less expensive and less "permanent" fix. -

DD Upgrades: What Am I Forgetting?
streetjeep2.5 replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Walmart sells a dual cupholder with another square holder inbetween that is supposed to slip between a bucket seat and console. It has a long part on the bottom but the top where the cups sit is mostly flat on one side and rounded on the other. I bought one and measured the height of the seat between my mini-console and the curved indent, cut it off, and it fits snugly in there, the lip of the cup holder part setting on the top of the curve of the seat. The curve of the hold matches the curve of the seat almost perfect! If you have your seat all the way back, you may have to attach it to the mini console. For me, where my bench sits, it's a perfect fit! Stays in all by itself! Only problem, too tall of a cup interferes with second gear in my 4 speed, so I put my cup in the right side, and 4th doesn't interfere. -
IRT the plates mentioned in a post a couple of weeks ago that were a fix for hinges that would come loose from the pillar (sorry, didn't save the link but did save the PDF file) I checked with a dealership and they said about 2500 of the first ones for hinges barely pulled loose are still in the main warehouse. I'm gonna see if that dealership wants to sell them for less than list price (almost $50) in order to make some extra bucks. I would assume (?) dealer cost would be about $25. If I can get them to sell them for cost + 10%. There would be shipping, of course, maybe drop shipment from factory. Anyone interested? Or, if any of you work for a Jeep dealership, can you talk your parts manager into doing a cost +10% deal? I am considering getting two and installing just to be safe down the road.

Yep, that's the worst area, and yea, thins out as you head south. Recent report said Oregon is the #2 State for people moving to. Gonna get worse! The article did say Oregon adding new taxes may slow it down some. :ack: Back in the 1960's someone put a sign on the border between Oregon and California that basically said Thanks For Visiting But Don't Stay! If I remember correctly (loooooonnnngggg time ago now), back then Oregon had a place you had to go thru coming up from California. Wanted to check the fruits and veggies for bugs mostly, I think.

I don't feel that way, and I drive it all the time, including today. Kewl! Guess things have changed! 10 years ago it was a nightmare! But, 40 years ago it was a breeze!

Alright, now! Hey, ya'all talkin' 'bout some of us here on da Club! they are only a few years older than me! ;) So, be careful in calling what guys of THAT age do "lame"! :smart: Here's the secret: Thou shalt be there some day! :rotf:

I may have to try it, but I have thought about a v-shaped angle iron brace angling back from the area where the ball goes on a stock bumper to the frame to stiffen the center part of the bumper. Thoughts????

Hand dents and bends in mine. Took it off and put wood under it and from the backside pounded them out with a sledge. Not perfect but with a new coat of paint looked a lot better than before. Plus, lay it on its side and you can do the same at getting the twist out. I guess flimsy has its pluses sometimes! ;)

Window channel seal
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep! Bookmarked it this time. Thanks!! -
Liked the light show with The Who. Liked The Who on album, but always thought live they could not carry a tune. Didn't this time either. Loved the Dodge commercial where the guys say they will do all these things for their wife as long as they get to drive the car they want! Gee, not working perfectly with my wife and my desire to sink some bucks into my MJ!! :dunno: And, that was one really good game! The Saints did not give up, and it rattled the Colts enough that they made costly mistakes.

can't find the post on the aftermarket window channel seal posted about a month ago. Did someone save it so you can post the link, or original poster give me the link? Danka!

I have found pounds of bondo hidden by new paint. Always be careful with new paint on an older vehicle. -
My 87 2.5 4 speed hauled in the bed a lawn tractor no problem, but only hauled it about 30 miles on mostly flat 60 mph road. Don't remember for sure, but think I did it before I overhauled the engine at 250,000 miles. But, as said, ya gotta stop, so make sure brakes, etc are good, and since it has been a very short distance driver, check all your radiator and heater hoses, etc cuz they can be ready to go but short distance won't cause them to squirt while long distance pulling can.

Been to the Sea Lion Caves? Have to take in Agate Beach sometime also and try and find some. Check when is the best time of year. Plus, look for some Sand Dollars.

Yea, 101 used to be an easy drive but as busy as the coast has become it is bumper to bumper between Newport and Astoria.

2 holes in the can to have the gas line go through the can and filled it with ice. Didn't coil it. We were unsure if it would cause and condensation in the line if it was in the ice too long. -

New to Comanche Club, Bought an 86
streetjeep2.5 replied to ride172's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yea, welcome! And, if memory serves me right, a 4.0 in an 86 is tough to do cuz it was in 87 they lengthened to engine bay to accept the 4.0, right?
