Fender Flare thread

I moved them up to the body line. Willy -
Like Pete said, $75 at pull a parts. I picked one up a few weeks ago for $143 with rotors, calipers, etc. Just the bare axle without the brakes was $75. Willy

I'm guessing it would be put to better use by giving it to the daughter. You can't fix stupid. :fool: Willy

Exact same question here. Willy

:agree: The Custom 4x4 brackets are very good quality. I had a set that went through several Jeeps and many rock encounters. I've got a set similar the the Custom 4x4 brackets that I'll let you have cheap plus shipping. They came from a donor Jeep so I'm not sure of the brand. They don't have the inner angle brackets, but those could be made from some angle iron pretty easily. Image Not Found Willy

Hopefully somebody that has done it can give you some more specific information, but basically you need to swap over everything from the donor - wiring, linkage, computer, dash, etc. Not only are you going from 4 cylinder to 6 cylinder, but also from AMC to Chrysler. Is that same XJ donating the engine? You've got a great group of friends. It's very cool to see all of them helping you. Willy

I'm not a fan of expanded metal, but that actually looks pretty cool. Willy

What's the deal with January? Does it get so cold there that the DMV doesn't want anybody leaving their houses in January? Willy

Just curious, but what is the problem they are trying to fix? Is the steering loose? Have they actually verified that the tie rod ends are bad? I had an Intrepid that would go through the bushings where the tie rods mount to the rack. It would cause wandering and a loose feel to the steering. Besides being a PITA to get to, they really weren't that hard to change. Maybe something to look into if they haven't physically verified where the problem is coming from? :dunno: Willy

Iron rock Long arm low down?
reson46 replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So you think the bushing's will take a hit even with flex joints at the frame? See the Rk kit had bushinga at the frame and flex joints at the axle. Rode great until the bushing took a poo via the trac bar failure. Read this. That discussion helped teach me quite a bit about suspension design. Ideally a three link should use hard joints, not bushings, to perform properly. Willy -
Not much of a sales pitch. :hmm: What is the point of this? Why would I want to use this instead of just going to Google? What are the differences between this and Google? :huh???: Willy

Iron rock Long arm low down?
reson46 replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Iron Rock stuff looks like complete crap designed by somebody who has no understanding of suspension design. There is nothing wrong with a three link - or in this case a radius arm on one side and single link on the other. It is a far superior design than a radius arm or non-triangulated four link with far fewer cons - the biggest being no binding. But Iron Rock's execution is completely wrong. There should be no bushings in a three link suspension. The bushings are necessary in radius arms and non-triangulated four links specifically to account for the binding. In a three link it leads to undesirable side effects like extreme pinion rotation under braking and acceleration. Willy -
Yes. I think there were three slightly different styles. The only difference being a painted on ring around the perimeter. One style had no ring, another had a chrome/silver looking ring, and I think there was a third with a black ring. Willy

Installed the exhaust. I need to find some type of exhaust wrap to keep the emergency brake cable from melting. So far none of the auto parts stores around here have anything. I relocated the sway bar forward a few inches. It no longer contacts the drag link or springs. I also picked up a straight tie rod and drag link that I need to install. Now that the muffler is occupying the location once used for the passenger side shock I now need to relocate the shocks. This is something I was planning on doing anyway eventually. There was almost no travel with the shocks mounted where they were. I already have the lower shock mounts for the axle. For the top I'm going to use a piece of tubing with sleeves and multiple mounting points to put the shocks in a /\ configuration. This should allow me to use shocks with more travel. More to come as I make progress. Willy

A static load and an impact or repeated load are two totally different things. Rule of thumb is a saftey factor of 6 is given for ductile materials (i.e. mild steel) under static load and double that for impact. I would consider the D rings to see impact loads. Tow strap and jerk. I see folks using this design often, but for me I want 0.5" plate running all the way through the bumper and tied to the frame, welded on both sides with a 3/4" hole drilled through it to mount clevis type d rings to. looks like a great bumper for personal use but, I personally don't see much marketability there. :agree: If you are trying to sell this as a bumper that can be used as a recovery point you also need to include pictures of how the bumper attaches to the unibody. At this point, from your description, I have no idea how it attaches or if you fully understand how important it is to distribute the load across as many mounting points as possible. My first guess would be that you only used the mounting locations for the stock bumper to attach this? Aesthetically it leaves a lot to be desired. You really need to tighten up those gaps if this is something you want to market. Gaps of several inches between the bumper and grill just looks cheap and unfinished. Better pictures would also help. It is hard to see the details when everything is in the shadows. Willy

That sucks. I hope they take care of it for you. If they are a quality company the 60 day policy shouldn't matter. In this case it is obvious that you haven't tampered with the parts and they were defective from the beginning. I try to think of things this way. Everybody and every company makes mistakes. It's how you take responsibility for those mistakes and correct them that makes you stand out from the rest. Willy

:needpics: Really, you can't take a trip like that and not take pictures. :fool: Willy

If that were the case I wouldn't get any mail from the rip off warranty companies. I'm sure the information is available for the proper fee. Willy

Amazing! They are even willing to hire Chrysler's rejects. While the Uplander was hideous, it still couldn't compare to the Aztek. The Uplander isn't quite new either. It was introduced in '05 and failed quickly. They stopped producing it for the US last year. :rotfl2: Willy

You had a URL tag embedded in an extra IMG tag. You only need the single beginning and ending IMG tags and the URL tag was not needed at all. Willy

More proof that GM's stylists are doing their best to create the ugliest POSs that you can't even imagine. :ack: With crap like this can anybody really wonder why they aren't making money? :hmm: Willy its chevys frickin PT CRUISER noone beleives me but it is ...... :agree: The first time I saw one I was amazed that somebody could actually build an uglier version of the PT Cruiser. Willy

I though they had already succeeded? I wish. They are still trying their best to top that monstrosity. It may be the only thing they are successful at. :rotf: Willy

Um i think all the Auto Makers are in this same situation IMO......No one knows how to build anything worth my time anymore Actually, I completely disagree. Yes, all of the automakers have seen declines in sales. But, many have managed to handle it better then others. GM seems to be handling it about the worst by continually making horrible decisions - one of those being the intent to make the ugliest vehicles possible. Willy
