Rear bumper differences?
onlyinajeep726 replied to GeorgiaJeeper93's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No. This is a universal fit bumper. It will work on the '86. -
Thanks! Not really all that bad. Most of the harnesses are a direct swap. Some adaptation required.

Not sure how many of y'all care, but I've been absent from CC for almost a month due to catastrophic computer failure. I've had to eat into the MJ budget, but I finally bought a new computer. Anyway, I've missed on a lot of what y'all have been posting. Time to play catch up, haha. - Shawn

Either one, 29 spline C8.25 or Ford 8.8. Both of those are significantly better than the Turdy-Five. I'd say the 8.8 only because you'll have to cut off the spring perches on either axle and weld on new ones, so at that rate, for the same work, you might as well go for a a stronger axle. Assuming you're getting it from the junkyard, you're going to likely pay the same for either one, so you might as well get the most for your money.
-
Depends on the years each axle came from. I'm not sure what years changed, but I do know that my D30 w/CAD from my '88 XJ had slightly different knuckles on it than the D30 I got from a '94 XJ, so I had to run the brake setup of the '94.

If you can find a good one with LSD, get it and save the money. Assuming you're getting it from a junkyard, they're not going to care one way or the other and you'll get charged the same, so you might as well get as much for your money as possible. -
I wasn't aware you could get a 44 in a 2wd....i thought it had to be towing and 4x4 Nope, because I just picked up an '88 SporTruck, 2WD with the Peugeot BA-10/5 and to my surprise, it has a D44 with LSD.

New Project: 1988 SporTruck!

Got some work done to the old girl... Got the crushed in front bumper removed, changed it over to open cooling and feel pretty confident that I've determined why it was having trouble staying cool... Bottom hose on water pump wasn't clamped, the water pump itself isn't sealed good against the block, radiator has a hole in it, top radiator hose clamp was loose, etc. Can't imagine why it wasn't holding coolant... Also, in the last two days, I've removed a rat's nest of random wires that were for some very "klassy" stereo system and some more wiring that was a sorry attempt to power the auxiliary electric fan... It was hard wired to the fuse box, with no fuse in between in the event of a short and at some point, pulled so much current that it melted part of the plastic on the panel. Also, the sheet metal under the battery tray is completely gone... Battery acid has deteriorated it. Time to bust out the welder and some plate metal. I dropped the fuel tank today and determined the fuel pump has been changed out. Yet another sorry @$$ job on it. Just see the picture. Anyway... enough babbling, it's time for pictures. Radio was a mess: Under the dash: Most of what was pulled out: Not sure what this is all about: Battery acid is no bueno for metal: Fuel pump hack job: Some job there...: Fuel gauge was kind of reading wonky... Perhaps this is why?: Where I stopped for the night... Bed full of parts lol: -

I should probably jack that puppy up and see if it is open or locked... That would be the bees-knees if I lucked out there yet again. -
Price? Link? Oh, and your grille is upside down, lol.

Remove that and report back. -
Helpful links: http://comancheclub.com/topic/39539-links-for-25l-to-40l-swap/ Wire harness adaptation DIY: http://comancheclub.com/topic/18588-xj-dash-harness-to-rear-mj-harness-wiring-guides/ Also, feel free to look through my build thread as I've tried to compile a pretty good collection of pictures with explanations of how I did it. You can also PM if you ever have a question.

Need more details on the donor? XJ? Another MJ? If you're using an XJ donor, you're better off making an adapter plug harness. There's a DIY guide on CC about it and it's not hard if you have a basic understand of electrical.

Someone had to have swapped it in at some point in its life, but then again... who knows. The early years of these trucks just kind of had what ever put in them. -
The Chevy style MC will not bolt to the dual diaphragm Chryco booster. Not only is the push rod length different, the size of the bore in which the MC slides into the booster is not the same size, the threaded studs from the BB don't even come close to lining up with the holes on the MC. I do know, that there was a dual diaphragm booster sold on eBay at one time that looks very similar to the the Chryco ones that do in fact work with the Chevy style MC.

Well guys, I've added yet another Jeep to the fleet... 1988 Jeep Comanche SporTruck short-bed, 5-speed (Peugeot with ~260k.. eek!), 2WD with a DANA 44 and SUNROOF! Guy I bought it from said it's overheating and he's replaced the water pump, thermostat and flushed the radiator... He thinks the head gasket is blown or cracked head... Thing is, there's no water in the oil and it's not blowing steam out of the exhaust... I think he didn't burp the closed cooling system correctly when he changed out the reservoir. Oh well, it's mine now and I've already obtained a spare 4.0 from a '97 XJ with 140k miles.
