Need help with a severe steering issue!
mvusse replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
With my Aussie locker in the front, when there is power to the pinion (ie, it is locked tight), I CANNOT steer at all unless I'm moving. -
Engine mounts from a 2.8 V6 in a 84 through 86 XJ or 86 MJ should work. Actually, pretty much everything from that 2.8 should work. Probably be best to find a parts car so you have a reference as well as all the little parts. When you're done, part out what's left to recover your money.

AX15 pressure plate and throw out bearing, or Camaro also?
-
The Peugeot is not worth fixing, and parts for it are expensive and difficult to find. Now would be an excellent time to swap in an AX15.

Reminds me of some hardware we get from the "Anglo American Brass Company". English speaking American, right? Then you pull it out of the box and they all have a little "made in Taiwan" sticker on them...

I'd say the steering box. BTW, in our Jeeps, ATF is not an acceptable substitute for power steering fluid (according to the owner's manual). -
I know someone here runs an AX15 behind a 4 cylinder using the Dakota bell housing. I would like to do that, but have a few questions: What clutch to use? Anything need done to the flywheel? How about pilot bearing?

Like Eagle, I get mine custom made to order by a local shop that specialized in (mostly semi truck) suspension and brakes.

too bad we couldnt meet up. I'm not that far from Kenosha. what ya doing in these parts of the woods anyways? Since the Honorary Consul here in Cleveland didn't have the equipment to take my fingerprints I had to go to the Consulate General of The Netherlands in Chicago to get my passport renewed. Could have also gone to NYC or DC, but Chicago was closer, plus I'd never been there before. Then I thought why not hop the border to find a few geocaches in Wisconsin and add another state to my map. Last time I'd been in WI was 17 years ago (just travelling through then). I did remember you live in those parts, and if I hadn't been so busy this week I would have contacted you.

They didn't always? I put an 87 cluster (white and blue numbers) from an XJ Wagoneer in my 4 cylinder MJ, and it also had the potentiometer. So if any didn't it must have been before 87 (84-86?).

In 38 hours time I covered 940 miles. Strasburg, OH to Chicago, IL to Kenosha, WI back to Strasburg, OH. Overnighted in a sleeping bag in the bed at a Walmart in Indiana somewhere. I also found out it needs more gears. That 4 cylinder only got 19mpg running 75mph for 344 miles straight (at over 3000 rpm), but averages 27 doing 60.

65" wide by 97" long is NOT for a Comanche. That's a full size 8' bed.

Take the cover off, and with one wheel off the ground turn the driveshaft until the stampings in the edge of the ring gear are visible. Two of the numbers are the number of teeth on the ring gear and on the pinion gear. Divide one by the other for the ratio.

Does the Dakota bellhousing have a spot for the CPS? -
They featured a farmer last week or two weeks ago who excavated his corn field to build a dam around his house using a bulldozer and track hoe he owned. If the water disappears fast enough he hoped to maybe still be able to plant soybeans to at least make some money off his land. Ho worked non stop for 47 hours building his dam. He says the lost crop may be $30k, His house costs $300k.

Stock gears go down to 4.56. Some aftermarket manufacturers make 4.88, but the pinion is so freakishly small I wouldn't trust the strength of them.

1989 comanche sport. will this fit? painless or not?
mvusse replied to 2brandonb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
91 will work. Renix and HO sending units are backwards and different resistance range. Pumps are also different. Between similar years the pump itself is the same between XJ and MJ. Sending units are mirror image, but supposedly an XJ unit will fit in an aftermarket MJ tank without the pan in the bottom. -
I WASNT gonna do any lifting BUT/front end low
mvusse replied to 88AMComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
But your Comanche being a pick up truck, designed to carry loads in the back, the rear is SUPPOSED to be higher than the front. -
I have to be at the Consulate General of the Netherlands on E Wacker Drive/N Stetson Avenue early Thursday morning. My appointment at the Consulate will take an hour at most. I plan to be in town two days, but can make it three if I have to, so opposite sides of the city are no problem. No kids either, just me, my MJ with a cap on the bed, sleeping bag and air mattress in the back. Sears Tower is definitely on the schedule.

I know there are members on here who live in the Chicago area so: Thursday June 9th I need to go to Chicago in person to renew my passport. I figured I might as well make a weekend of it, but have never been there. So What are some of the places I should really visit while there?

Physically, it will fit. But putting an 99 engine and transmission into an 89, EVERYTHING needs changed, including dash cluster, and fuel pump assembly. The only thing you'd reuse is the tail light wiring which you will have to splice into the dash harness, but only because you will have no other choice. -
That's 252,167.3 miles for you Americans.
-
From the same era (Renix vs HO), the pump itself, yes. The sending unit/pump assembly, no.

I have a subscription to Petersen's and don't like it too much. Too many photos, not enough text. Once my subscription runs out I'll try JP.
