And here I thought you were talking tires...
-
I don't think the timing is adjustable. I know it isn't in the 4.0. But yeah, never thought about the timing chain (or belt?). That might be worth checking. Place the engine at TDC, pull the distributor cap and see if it's pointing anywhere near #1.

FSJ 1967 Axle swap to Comanche?
mvusse replied to thejum57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mostly. Rear drive shaft is a different length, and the rear axle is spring over in a Cherokee, axle over in a Comanche. Spacing between the spring perches is different too. So to put an entire Cherokee drive train under a Comanche, you'd have to cut the perches off the rear axle and weld new ones one, and have a rear drive shaft made, get one from a jy. or have your 2wd one shortened. Easiest solution is to keep your rear axle, have your 2wd drive shaft shortened, and take everything else from a Cherokee. -
Timing? Or basically, has anyone ever done anything to the plug wires and possibly put them back on wrong?
-
Sorry to hear that. Sure sucks.

You speaking from experience? :D

Nyuk, nyuk -- A 50/50 mix under 13 psi won't boil until 260 degrees with an open system, either. :D Ummm, in an open system, the overflow bottle is not pressurized, but the rest of it is still a "closed system" pressurized to 13 psi. If a cooling system would truly be open, you wouldn't be able to pressurize it. :D
-
And on a closed system under 13 pounds of pressure, a 50/50 mix of coolant and water will not boil until it gets to 260 degrees.

The jack crank doubles as the winch crank. There is no adapter that I know of.

195.5 is total length, bumper to bumper. Wheel base is listed as 119.9 for 7' bed, 113 for 6' bed. The info is straight out of the owner's manual, and it refers to them as a 6' box and a 7' box.

Since when is 150,000 over the hill for a 4.0?
-
Okay, so I'm leafing through my manual and I came by some drawings of a Comanche with measurements (pages 74 and 75). It has a table with 2 columns, one for the 7 foot box and one for the 6 foot box. The overall length, bumper to bumper, is listed as 494.0cm, 195.5" for the 7 foot box, and 455.2cm, 179.3" for the 6 foot box. Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I thought a 1 foot difference would be 12", but 195.5-179.3=16.2" So with a 16" difference, what are the lengths of a 6 foot box and a 7 foot box?

You know for somebody running a Comanche web site, and using a Comanche as your avatar, I hear surprisingly little about your truck. What ever happened to it? Or is it too sore of a topic to discuss?

A local yard has a Manche with a 2.5. It's buried in a corner, so I doubt it's going to go anywhere soon, I need to get back there to get the seat brackets off, I'll try to remember to check if you still need the ECM by then.

Yes, but 25.5 gallons (1.5 already in it plus the 24) in a 23.5 gallon tank? I don't think so... Actually, my F100 had a 19.2 (17 imerial gallons) gallon tank and it would only fill to about 18.5, the Suburban has a 42 gallong tank, and full to overflowing is 41.7, My Olds 98 has a 24 gallon tank that only fit about 23.5. Tank size may be approximate, but I think it includes the air pocket.

I married the wrong one. She used to complain about me taking vehicles where she thought they didn't belong. On top of that she'd complain about me getting the paint job all scratched up. Eventually she left me for a truck driver, and all is good now. Too bad I couldn't afford the house by myself, though. I miss my garage.

dealer parts: anyone have them cheaper?

Blhtaz? -
I'd replace the battery first. One of the trucks at work we spent 2 years tracking down a non existent short before we found out the battery had a shorted cell and was draining itself. Or at least take the battery out of the truck, fully charge it, let it sit for a few days and have it tested.

Well, I got the return line fixed. 1/4" brake line was a loose fit inside the old return line, but not too bad. Welded a nice bead around the end of the old broken off line, and I was good to go. Got everything back together and poured in 2 gallons of gas. Ran the engine and no leaking lines. Drove 10 miles and filled up the tank to the top, still no leaks. However, I somehow managed to get almost 24 gallons in a 23.5 gallon tank that should only have been able to hold 22 gallons on top of what was already in there. I think that gas pump is reading about 5% high  Will have to call the state auditor or somebody about that tomorrow.

J&W Auto Wreckers from Antelope CA -> Any Experience?
mvusse replied to SuperWade2's topic in The Pub
Davey's Jeep in Ohio is not too bad, but last I checked they only had 2 MJs, and are trying to sell on as a fixable, so only parting 1. They do have about 100 XJs and about the same number of CJs/YJs. A few older Wagoneers as well. But shipping to CA would probably kill the price. -
I just reread your post on how you repair the lines. Gonna give it a try, but for lack of a welder I'll let a friend of mine (professional welder) do that part. Oh, and two of the leaks were under the rear strap. I saved the middle one for last. As badly rusted as the tank is, I'm willing to bet there are more leaks higher up. When I'm done I'm filling to sucker with water all the way to the top to see just how bad it is. And waiting anxiously for the package.
-
Well, the tank is finally off. I had to cut the breather hose at the fill tube because the clamp is rusted. I'll deal with that later. Bigger problem is that the return line is busted halfway around just outside the tank. Double  . I'll try to solder it, but nor until I get the wiring grommet out of there first, and that sucker doesn't want to cooperate either. The pump is a Bosch unit, and has a 3" length of rubber hose connecting it to the steel line leaving the tank. Is that the factory setup, or does that mean it's been replaced before? I'm gonna make and eat some pizza while I cool off and let my blood pressure settle. I have the feeling I'll be driving the Suburban for the next few days. The new tank is probably not going to be installed tonight.

In the process of taking the old gas tank out, noticed the rear U-joint in the rear drive shaft is bad  First strap came off easily, just loosened the nut enough to pop the hanger bolt out of the slot. Second strap I had to use a hacksaw to cut the bolt, and as soon as it came off gasoline started running out of the tank. 2 holes underneath the strap. Good thing there's only a gallon or so in there, if that much. fuel lines, wiring harness and center strap are up next.

And what prevents the bead of the inside of the rim from popping?

TRUCK CAP DIMENIONS!!!!!!!!!
mvusse replied to Imperial21's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just went out and measured mine. Outside dimensions of my cap are 60 wide (front and back), 90 long. Don't know if it's supposed to be on a Comanche or if it was meant for something else as it came with the truck when I bought it, but it fits just fine.
