Glad to have you still with us. I'm pretty sure we've lost Chico, though.

After being assured by customer service they are in stock I drove an hour to Summit Racing to pick up some leaf spring center bolts as well as 2.5"x7" square U bolts. Get to the sales counter and find out they don't have any in stock :headpop: The guy looked again after I told them I was told they were in stock, and found out they are.... In the Nevada store! He also told met o use the extension for the cashier's desk and ask them to connect me to the sales desk as customer support don't know their behind from a hole in the ground. Then I still had an hour drive ahead of me to get home :fs1: Did what I could without the new center pins and U bolts. Got the axle off truck, got 3" lift springs off axle, got one spring pack temporarily bolted together to measure thickness and mocked up one side to take some measurements. Using these perches, D35 axle and stock 3+1 springs will lift you between 5.5" and 5.75" above the same springs sprung under. Tomorrow I will get new center bolts and U bolts at my usual source just down the road to mock everything up under the truck and see how the truck sits. and if I have to change anything on my spring packs. Hopefully I can get it all where I want it so I can tack the new perches into place. This is where I'm at now:

No data, but an idea: buy 2 bathroom scales. stand on each not holding the shell, then stand on them while holding the shell. Add the difference of each scale together.

Local chief of police does not wear his seatbelt, although he makes his family wear theirs, but he also will refuse to issue a ticket for other people not wearing theirs. Rest of the pd will, though. I myself took the family station wagon airborne and through (not into, but through) a telephone pole when I was 18 due to a combination of young, stupid, high speed, gravel road, snow left of north side of hill (in May), raised intersection and culvert with a 6' long strip of steel sticking out. The car came to rest 300 feet past the pole on the opposite side side of the road in the ditch. 6 people, nobody wearing a seatbelt, no injuries. I firmly believe I will only ever have one chance in my life to win the jackpot in a lottery, and that was it. So I now religiously wear my belt. According to my daughter I already won the jackpot twice, though. The second time being a car going the wrong way on the freeway coming toward me while I was in the passing lane beside a semi truck. When I realized that was a car coming at me at a combined speed of 140mph, I did the only thing I could do, punched it and cut in front of the semi, who had already realized what was going on and got on the brake. My rear bumper could not have missed the front bumper of the semi by more than an inch, and I had to pull over to check the side of the truck to make sure the idgeot had not clipped the rear of my truck as I moved into the slow lane on a 45 degree angle. That right there was the most intense adrenaline rush I've ever experienced in my life. But I'm getting off topic here.

Amidst all the wonderful advice...
mvusse replied to jmc1986mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
From all the horror stories I've heard, Rusty's could hardly be called an upgrade. You could get a straight JY tie rod and brand new tie rod ends for much less than $315. -
Both my 87 MJ and 94 XJ have the double cardan joint, and IIRC when I was last under there, they also both bolt up to the transfer case with a flange and not a yoke. The only yoke is on the rear output shaft. The front drive shaft has a slip joint in the middle to make up for length differences due to suspension travel.

Oil filter in an '88: Does the Mopar MO-090 fit?
mvusse replied to phenryiv1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just looked closely at both my 87 MJ (Renix) and 94 XJ (Chrysler) side by side. Everything is in the same location, including the charcoal cannister. Looking at the Renix it does not seem like it is going to fit. Looking at the Chrysler I noticed the end where the adapter connects to the block, the block is turned down slightly, maybe 10 degrees or so. Because of this the filter will clear the charcoal cannister with plenty of room. -
Not what I got done, it's what I didn't get done. getting ready to start on the soa conversion, I took my old stock leaf packs apart (all 4 of them), selected the leafs I'll be using to build 2 good packs, and bolted them together using a spare pair of bolts I had left from the Suburban. Then I find out the heads are too large to fit in the perches. Unless I find a place that has them in stock that is open on Sunday, I'll be sidelined until Monday, when it's supposed to be raining. Don't believe the place I usually go to is open Sundays.

I'm using the stock exhaust manifold. Why do you want a header? On a Renix 4.0 it won't really have much of an effect other than increasing the engine bay temperature.

Mrsimon's First Mj Project (Tube Bed Page 7)

LOL, this was the post I was waiting for someone to put up... and I would agree with this 8 times out of 10.... this is not one of those times.... A D35 is 2-3/4" diameter Mr Spobi-nator.... :shake: A whole 1/4" of difference = they'll work fine. I stand by my statement. D35 is 2-5/8", a D44 is 2-3/4". -
what!? only my front 2 will lock up You still have the adjusting mechanism for the rear brakes hooked up? make a little longer rod to run from the pumpkin to the lever.
-
Based on those tires I think you simply have a front tire out of balance. Super Swampers are almost impossible to balance, and the balance will change as they wear.
-
I got brakes again! Even with 33s I can lock up all 4 on pavement.
-
My 94 Cherokee says "Pioneer" on the fenders, but according to the Chrysler VIN decoder and auto parts store computers it's an SE.
-
Agree, definitively needs to be replaced.

What exactly is it doing. Death wobble is defined by side to side shaking so violently the only thought going through your head is "HOLY CRUD, I'M GONNA DIE!". The only way to stop it is to come to a (almost) complete stop. I have personally experienced this at low speeds due to front wheel alignment (toe-in) being off by two whole inches after a lift, but normally wheels that far out of alignment do not happen. Aside from that death wobble usually happen at speeds upwards of 50 mph. It is possible you do have DW, but I'm guessing you have something else. We need to know a description of what you are experiencing, history of the vehicle if you have owned it for any length of time, and specs on front suspension and steering. What parts have been replaced or adjusted, do you have any lift, if so how much and with what parts, etc. DW can have 100 different causes, and 100 different fixes. Normally if your wheels are aligned, tires are balanced, ball joints are good, tie rod ends are tight, track bar and bracket are tight and control arms are tight with good bushings you should be good.

New poster and a couple questions!
mvusse replied to Jess's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Parking brake cables are available from Autozone (I just checked) and I assume most of not all other auto parts stores. They are not very expensive either. If some of your tie rod ends are shot, the other ones are probably close, so you probably should replace all of them. This will get a little expensive. -
I would contribute -$25 (negative) if I could as I hate VBulletin, but like phpBB

An AX4 behind a 4.0? Congrats on the new ride. And good choice on doing a snorkel first :D -
In process of replacing front brakes. No brake material left, braking with the rivets  Got new pads installed, ready to put everything back together, just gotta wait for NAPA to be done turning the rotors.

Um, thanks, JT. I opened the link with my 12 year old daughter looking over my shoulder... -
:agree: I does look good! I love the forklift and real world flex testing -> I never saw that shot before! That's awesome! Aussie locker, baby! I did do some damage to my driver side front bumper end cap getting up on that rock.
