"too High To Get It Right" Portal Comanche
GirsMJ86 replied to huricane4's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yea, seems most of those that are 35"+ are 12.5" or so. Looks like the width really cuts into what is out there, not even BFG's famous T/A KOs come in that width. Their Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 comes very close at 14.5 but then the rim size would be all wrong for ya. -
"too High To Get It Right" Portal Comanche

I think some Baja Claws would look mean on it but I can't comment on them beyond that. Most aggressive tire I've ever had was made by a now defunct company, so I'll be weighing my options as well once I need new tires and do my lift. -
Jcr Bumpers With Bushwackers

Definitely looks good, and so glad to hear the factory skid still bolts up. Think this just sealed the deal on the parts I must acquire. Thanks. -
Jcr Bumpers With Bushwackers
GirsMJ86 replied to GirsMJ86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That looks awesome. Question: Is that the factory skid? If so that partially answered another thing I was wondering. Did you have to modify it in any way or did it still just bolt right up? -
$190 is cost for the d44 alone, this one just comes with a few extras. I'd be grabbing it because it sounds like a total waste and something like that would make me want hunt down the po and drag their new heap to a junk pile. Some people is right.

Anyone have some pics of this setup? I did a search here and on google, but mostly I'm just finding these bumpers on 97+ XJs with stock flares. Debating if I want to just order their front bumper and get some bushwackers or have one fabricated locally to match their rear MJ bumper better and run factory un-cut flares.
-
Just saying. Other than finding a chrome rear bumper along the side of the road, this is the greatest thing yet IMO. Might have spent a bit more than I wanted, but so worth it once my rig is all together with all the accessories it already had from the factory. I was going to make some out of some mud flap material I have laying around and some tracings, but original is better for my application. I know I have enough material to make rears, might have enough to make all four, so if anyone wants some clones that don't say Jeep just shoot me a PM and we can work stuff out once the originals get here.

Check out what I just scored... 4 NOS Mud Flaps! Now I won't have to custom make some out of some mud flap material I have laying around. Might have been a bit more than I wanted to spend on these, but with the options my truck already has plus the tonneau cover I'm having reproduced and factory skid plates I should be getting this summer, I feel having a full set makes it worth it. Can't wait to get them on once they arrive.

:hmm: Are those not the same as the ones I linked to? I'm glad everyone around here likes them. My factory ones work perfectly, but my whole truck needs rewired so I'll be grabbing those new ones. Huge plus for me is they are black since I have the black interior, they'll look much nicer than the factory ones.

Thanks Johnny. Can't wait to produce them updates for y'all, it's already a looker in my book so can't wait for some fresh paint and sliders. . :MJ 1: .

Not much of an update since the weather has been bad, but I did pressure wash the thing, scrub the tires, and clean the interior. I think it cleaned up rather nicely. Forgot to grab a pic of the interior and the awesome looking shocks, but I'm sure there will be many more pics later once I start really digging into it this summer.

That thing looks great, going to weigh this against my current setup and see if I can live with the idea of no more arm rest.

These?

The 3.4 bolts up to the 2.8 trans just fine, they are both 60* blocks. I think the transverse mount kills it though, I've always heard it had to come out of a RWD car like a camaro or monte carlo.

That picture... it even LOOKS sad. Poor fella indeed. :(

91-92 Mj Fuel Gauge Senders

Good thing you chimed in Don, I completely forgot the wire swapping was done internally. -
91-92 Mj Fuel Gauge Senders
GirsMJ86 replied to Keyav8r's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They aren't actually specific to those years only, and you can even use an older one if you want (or vice versa if you have an older rig and use a 91+ unit). The only difference is the polarity, all you have to do is swap the wires and it should read correctly. My old '91 had an older sender unit in it and the wires were not swapped, all that happened is it read backwards on the gauge. I got used to it and didn't care, sure freaked out passengers though. -
Airbags and coils in the rear are not stock. What made the metric tonne was extra leaf springs in the rear and a D44 or AMC20 (1986 only) rear axle. Oh, I also almost forgot... :needpics: If you've been lurking, you knew it was coming. We need some pics of your new rig, especially if it is a metric tonne.

Stop and act like your interested in the bike, but only if it comes with the truck it's chained to.

Can't stand flaresides but stepsides look awesome, especially on a Jeep truck. Always loved the stepside Gladiator and that MJ shows there should have been a factory one.

The 3.4 is better than the 2.8 in basically every aspect. It was found in the monte carlo, camaro, firebird, and I'm sure several others. Just look it up on the wiki and you'll see. Much better aftermarket support too than the 2.8 and it was offered supercharged I believe, but don't quote me on that.

The concepts show those of us who are all about true Jeeps that at least a handful of designers and engineers are right there with us. Beyond that though it doesn't mean much since true Jeeps are not what brings in the money anymore. Now it is all about on-road mall crawlers and freeway cruisers that get high MPG. Small trucks have sadly all but died out in the USA and I honestly would not want a monstrosity of a full size truck these companies are putting out today, even if it carried the Jeep name. And even though I know many of you don't like the JK, I personally do like it (a whole lot more than a YJ or TJ to boot) and we are lucky they continue to be easily modified into some pretty wild rigs. Back to the point though, we're extremely lucky we even got the JK8 conversion kit so those with very deep pockets can have a "factory" modern Scrambler if they want. Coming out with a true Jeep in today's market would just lead to disaster and a short life span like so many other niche vehicles over the past ten years.
