  1. Is there a way to fix it? I'm sure this had been touched on before, but I couldn't find anything. My tailgate isn't in the best of shape and I'd prefer to replace it with a better one, but that is easier said than done. Plus I have a chrome handle and would hate to lose that since everything else is chrome on this thing. The thing hardly works though, have to pull it really far out before it engages and releases the gate with some resistance. I know there are those three torx bolts or whatever from the inside of the gate that I assume allows the handle to be removed, but once it is out what needs to be done to make it engage properly again?
  2. The rear main on my old '86 leaked all the time but was very bad when running, so bad that there was a trail of oil leading up to the stop sign on the street my gf lived on. I took it to a shop and was told $1800 to $2200 I think, guy said the engine would have to be pulled. I tried to fight with him on it because I knew from looking around the internet that it could be done by dropping the tranny instead. Either way not a fun job I'm sure, so if you are able to I would do it yourself. I ended up selling mine rather than deal with it any longer, but I had a weak 2.8L so it wasn't as hard to part with as a good running 4.0L.

    Things Wanted

Added a few more things to the list I've discovered I need.
  4. Seems reasonable to me. All I see that it needs is a stock front bumper, but that's my personal preference and those are much easier to find than a stock rear which it still has. It's a CL listing with good pics and a very good description, doesn't look like you'd run into too many surprises with this one like you would most CL stuff.
  5. My wipers still work fine (intermittent) but turn signals do not. Does the entire stalk in the column have to be replaced or is the turn signal function separate from the wipers? Either way I know it isn't going to be fun, but at least I don't have a tilt wheel since I bet those make it worse. Also after turning my running lights/headlights off, the lights on the right side (passenger) of the truck stay on. The headlight is off but running lights and reverse light stays on. I'm thinking bad headlight knob, and I think I have a spare one somewhere I can swap in, but I wanted to hear what others thought first.
  6. No info given at all, love it...
  7. I love these cars. Almost had a purple '69 AMX as my first car back in high school until I discovered the MJs. I prefer the looks of the '71s & '72s but I probably should have gotten it and maybe found someone to trade or something. My favorite pony car that's for sure.
  8. Ah well then I guess that right nut didn't want to come off for a reason. I will screw with it sometime this week then once I pick up a deep well socket since I'm lacking those in metric.
  9. So it is a steering column brace but it goes on the right side. Anyone able to tell me where about the other end goes? I can't locate the bolt anywhere, could be missing I suppose. Test fitting it the only place that seems to work is down by the gas pedal on one of the bolts that hold that bracket. Is that correct?
  10. I'm replacing the MC and Slave so I would like to replace the line as well. Anyone know the part number or better yet, know if the parts terrawombat links to here will work for my application? I'm not at home for a few days and not having much luck finding the part on Auto Zone or O'Reilly's website from my phone.
  11. The brace is just over 18 inches end to end. Has a slight bend towards the middle.
  12. Found these things in the new truck. I seem to recall seeing the plastic shield before on one of my old rigs, I want to think it goes on the front of the gas tank? The other thing I don't have the slightest clue.
  13. I'd be offended by that. I've never seen an S-10 that even the saddest MJ couldn't put to shame.
  14. Those don't overlap that bad, I'd just cut the door like above.
  15. Shouldn't be anything special so long as your firewall will accept the 4.0 block. The firewall is not curved to fit the 4.0 in 86 rigs unless it was end of year and they started implementing changes for the coming year when the 2.8 was replaced with the 4.0. If your firewall will fit the 4.0 then it is a relatively simple swap, otherwise you need to massage it or hack it up and weld in the section from a 4.0 rig. Just swap everything that you can along with the 4.0. The header panel, radiator, hood, and all that is different as well don't forget.
  16. This is the reason I run stock tailgates and display the lettering proudly. At least from behind everyone knows I am in a jeep. They can figure out for themselves if it is factory or a custom thing by pulling out their phone and googling. I teach history to those who want to learn I figure. What I love are the older generations that remember these trucks or the J10 when I had it and they take the time to watch me drive past before getting in their car or you hear them go "...manche, I have not seen one of those..." As you cruise by them in a parking lot.
  17. Ah that handle, I remember it now. Never used it when I did have buckets so forgot all about it. I do remember the ones on my 91 being very stiff though when I got it so I'd agree with above about needing cleaned and lubed.
  18. Ah, then I'm not sure what you're referencing since it's been so long since I had an MJ with buckets. All I remember is the release lever for the seat back and the handle at the front bottom of the seat to make it slide. Sorry about that.
  19. I believe you lift up to release, and more than likely you'll need to get inside the seat to fix things. When mine in one of my past rigs would stick, I would take a big flat head screw driver and push the metal "J" arm or whatever you want to call it over by getting in from behind the seat and wedging it between the seat back and bottom. Say it was the drivers seat, I'd wedge it in and push the arm towards the passenger side while pushing the seat back towards the back of the cab. Hope that makes sense, kind of hard to explain, but I could show ya if I had buckets.

    Comanche Bike

The AWD version was the Rubicon, very very expensive for a bicycle. Could buy a semi built MJ for the price of one back when they came out.
  21. Maybe someone that works there owns a long bed though and they don't have access to a short? Not meaning to sound rude if that came across as such, just the only real reason I see for this turn of events. I'm all for it though since I'm biased and currently only own a LWB and prefer them. My thoughts exactly. Very clean looking products, and the step is a nice touch.
  22. Not bad, might have to grab those at some point. Also might grab the bumpers if I can't get my stock ones straightened out.
  23. Where I'm at most people just wave. A lot of farmers though so that's why I suppose. I would wave whether I was in my K-10, J10, MJ, or driving the Eclipse or Talon. I've not really noticed a true "jeep wave" for a long time though.
  24. Dang if you had posted a month ago I would have given ya a grand if not a tad more depending how far away you are.
  25. That would be because trucks today all seem to have solid windows, or cabs that place it too far back for it to be adjusted while driving. They should make a power slider option...
