  1. well, you can get header pipe from summit racing, filters, plugs and oil are about all you can do to stay cheap. a cold air intake off of a XJ (cherokee) will work as the seats foreward are the same. Throttle body spacer will help too. ill go with Pete, if that isnt enough re-gear it. if you have some mechanical skills and some time you can take a whiz tool and port/polish your throttlebody.
  2. check your filter, pressure and injectors. if that does not work check your EGR valve, Make sure you have plug wires running to correct cylinder numbers.
  3. What would higher octane have to do with fuel economy? I think you are a little confused. You get detonation from running fuel that has too low an octane. Any octane over what stops detonation doesn't do anything. Needs Well, Higher octane burns slower and it gives you more fuel economy so if you run E85 and bump up the octane you will get a more efficient engine.
  4. for what cars/trucks? you can't say that its 39% worse without saying what type of vehicle your using. and coulnt youjust get some octane booster? an engine can run around 120 octane before you have premature detanation and flames shooting throught the manifold(s)/header(s).
  5. going down RT. 4 into northwood in my buddies XJ and then after about 20 hours of cling cling ling it went vroom vroom vroom and we had ourselves a front wheel drive XJ with a 4.0 :chillin:
  6. timing may be to "retarded." mark with a magic marker the location of your dist. and then spin it iver so slightly counter clockwise and if it gets worse spin it ever so slightly clockwise from whare the 2 lines match. if that dosent fix it we can rule out spark and fuel.
  7. dang-oh :redX:
  8. Take any stock XJ, MJ, or Jeep or GM vehicle. Turn the steering wheel all the way to lock and hold it. You'll hear a change in sound, which may manifest as a groaning noise or may sound more like a WHOOSH. That's the pump trying to push fluid that's not going anywhere. It WILL destroy the steering pump if you make a practice of it. :agree:
  9. yeah if its built for a turbo then it probably has enough output pressure to feed the 4.0
  10. make sure the brakes are there and working, and that the bleeders arent snapped off
  11. wierd. you gonna paint her?
  12. gahh. chances are its probably NOT worn out cylinders. @ 200k its more along the lines of valves not seating correctly. there is a cheap fix that may work for you MARVEL MYSTERY OIL. the stuff is like Jesus. its cheap add it to your oil and gas fix your exhaust and tell us the results
  13. the fuel filter is on the drivers side in the "frame rail" in back of the cab if i remember correctly
  14. on thing to check for befor you give yourself a headache is to make sure the wire from that connects to the ring is clean and not green
  15. you could get one from a car at thr scrapyard. and get a box of self taping screw too
  16. did you test your fuseable link?
  17. :agree: seems like a fuel issue to me. disconnect the fuel line from the body and crank it. you should have a steady flow. if it pulses but you have plenty coming out that is good too. if it trickles out then i would change the fuel filter
  18. lol yeah but i mean come on guys.. have you ever seen 16" bogger burn marks? its hard to say no
  19. a D44 is plenty reasonable for a MJ w/4.0. your almost guaranteed not to break them. i did burnouts with my 35/16 boggers and a 5.7 and thay are fine
  20. comanches werent made until '86
  21. and now asking what CCV was I thought that it stood for a cranky crab varmit :rotfl2: hahaha ha :jump:
