Damper Pulley? Vas Is?
Geonovast replied to Buckeye Charly's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's rather common for the rubber isolator between the inner and outer parts of the balancer to wear out, causing the outer part to walk forward or backward, which chews up belts. This is not a dealer only part. www.rockauto.com has them for a little over $30. -
Your rear axle will work. Both the 4.0/auto and 2.5/4 speed combos got 3.55 gearing in the axles. Swapping the axles would most likely be a good idea, but not necessary. The speedo gear in the XJ's transfer case is already what you need. Obviously you'll have to swap the front. You'll need all the brake stuff from the XJ's Dana 30, it's not compatible with the older 2wd calipers. The rear is up to you. Do you know what axle the XJ has? If it's a Dana 35, and you already have a Dana 35 with no problems, it's not worth it. If the XJ has a Chrysler 8.25, then it's a good upgrade. However, it would affect your rear driveshaft, as the yoke on the 8.25 sicks further forward than the D35. Rear axle will need the XJ spring perches cut off, might as well cut the shock mounts off too, and weld new perches on in the MJ positions.

89 Renix 4.0/AX15 -> 91 4.0 HO/ AW4

Gotcha, well, like, I said, any factory XJ/MJ crossmember that's not for an AX-15 will work for you. AX-15 is the only oddball. -
4cyl swap to Inline 6
Geonovast replied to littlezeeker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This needs to go into the tech section, hopefully a mod will move it for ya. Short answer on your transmission: No. Long answer on your transmission: Definitely not. You'll need a 5 speed trans from a 4.0. -

Aren't you getting this entire XJ? The AW-4 crossmember on it is what you need. Also, the AW-4 shares a crossmember with every other XJ/MJ trans other than the AX-15. -
No, midplate itself is identical, however, the AX-4 will be missing the shift rail for the 5th gear, and the rail for reverse is different between the two, since the AX-4 is missing the one for 5th. It's all interchangeable, but swapping the 5th gear rail stuff into an AX-4 midplate is a major pain.

It won't accidentally pop into gear.

I believe that's production year.. and it may only be the factory 4wd ones.

I know someone that needs an AX-15 crossmember... -

Well, if he's got an extended shaft from the lift, then it probably wouldn't work for you anyway. You current front shaft may bolt on, but I get the feeling that articulating the suspension just from DDing may snap the slip joint. The AW-4 is about an inch longer than the AX-15. It's always possible to find a rear shaft from an MJ that would fit... but probably easier to get yours cut. -

You will need to swap everything. You're putting in the auto, yes? Shouldn't be difficult with a complete donor. Your current T-case is a 23 spline being behind an AX-15, should bolt up to the AW-4 just fine. You'll obviously need to use the 91 gauge cluster. Your rear driveshaft will be about an inch too long going from an AX-15 to an AW-4. Front shaft out of the donor will work fine. Feel free to ship me your AX-15 when you're done. PM me if you want my address  :D -
If it's anything like XJ/MJ compressors, you should be able to pop the clutch off and run it as an idler... if the pulley bearing itself isn't the problem. It seems odd that the compressor would seize and the clutch seize engaged from sitting.

Unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing, and have the blueprints for the Unibody/Cab memorized, and are PERFECT with a plasma cutter and welder, DO NOT attempt to remove the cab from the unibody if you ever plan to reattach it and drive the truck. Even if you could do the above, I would still recommend against it.

There's four bolts, 12 mm head. Remove the bolts, and pull the shifter.

Circumstances have allowed us to come up the 17th, so maybe we'll get to see you?

I don't think so. ratzbyd came in, then a minute later WiRatz came in. ratzbyd disappeared a few minutes later, WiRatz went to MyRoom1, registered the profile as a girl named Pam Day, then left after about 20 minutes. Neither said anything.

4 to 6 Engine swap question
Geonovast replied to foreman1063's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I believe that's true with the Renix systems, however, I'm pretty sure the HO systems have to have all the wiring swapped. -
I reset my modem and router, seems to be better now. Acted up for a minute, then it's fine... forum and chat. Also, Pete, we may have a spam problem in chat. Nothing was posted, but two weird accounts came in for a few minutes, then left.

Possibly. See if you can have someone turn the motor over by hand while you keep the multimeter hooked up, and see what kind of range you get.

We are doing this, yes? -
Miracles do happen.

Me too. Dad got our first XJ when I was 7. It was a 2 door, and a PITA for me and my brother to get in and out of, but it was fun to ride in. If I'd only known back then what I know now, we'd probably still be driving it instead of it going to the scrapyard for pretty much no reason.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have this problem? Regardless of if I'm doing stuff on the site or not, it keeps bringing this up. I have to refresh several times to get it to come back, all other websites are fine.

different bucket seats?
Geonovast replied to boardmanMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any bucket will work if you can make your own brackets.
