  1. NO. It's there for a reason, if you bypass it you'll burn out your fuel pump. Just go get a new one. $7 at carquest.
  2. That depends on if they're internal or external. I've seen internal slaves, which have the throwout bearing attached, go for more that $100. I got a clutch kit from carquest for $140 (clutch, PP, throwout, pilot bearing), and an external slave from a local shop for $47.
  3. For Jeep motors, specifically the 4.0, 125k is low miles. I bought my 88 XJ with 187k and was content with it, and when we got the 89 XJ with 132k I was extremely happy with the mileage. I bought my red one with 122k (2.5) and my blue one with 134k (4.0) and I considered both to be low mileage. Always being a Jeep owner I really get a kick out of people who refer to their cars with 100k as "high mileage"
  4. There are several people here who have done it, and I'm planning on doing one. Here's the thread for mine; http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5942
  5. If it is, you can swap just the housing/external setup and throwout bearing retainer and keep your current trans, which can all be done with the motor out and trans in the truck.
  6. That'll buff right out. It's fine. Glad the family's ok. :D
  7. Sounds like a U-joint to me. Easy enough to check, just turn the wheels all the way to the left, then reach in there, grab the axle shaft, and wiggle it. If it moves, you'll see the bad U-joint.

    Earthquake

Anyone feel that earthquake at 4:30 CST this morning? Apparently I was supposed to, but I was asleep... I know it's not the first time souther IL has had one, but it's still weird..
  9. I used one when I did mine and I never had a problem with it. I dunno how much longer it'll last though.
  10. For power and efficency, you're better off with the 97 motor. However; To move to the MPFI You'd have to swap all the wiring over...and being that its from a Wrangler, there's gonna be a lot of differences and you'll need to rig things to work. You may be able to lay it in as a second harness. As for the trans, you have two options. The 97 motor will bolt directly up to it, if you use your current clutch kit. I would swap tranmissions though, external slave setups are so much better. All you'd have to do is modify the clutch line and bleed it.
  11. You have an 89 with a 5 speed. Two different tranmissions were used behind the 4.0 that year. The BA 10/5 will not put up with a stroker. The AX-15 will. You should probably figure out which one you have before you think about dropping a stroker in there.
  12. It could also being something as stupidly simple as a bad battery terminal. Check your battery cables and terminals, make sure they're not loose or corroding.
  13. PM me if you would like a copy of photoshop.
  14. This is my question....I am converting from puke to AX15, would pilot bearing from the ax15 motor fit the crank in mine with puker? The crank aspect of the AX-15 and BA 10/5 are the same for 89+90. The crank was slightly modified for the HO 4.0s
  15. I think it'd look alright with a blower sticking out the hood, a decent matched paintjob, and doing a wheelie down a track.
  16. I'm not really sure what it is, but the back does look abnormally long, doesn't it?
  17. Take that internal slave out and feed it to the dumpster!
  18. 91 +, same year the 4.0 went to HO. If you get EVERYTHING(wiring, manifolds, sensors) with that for $400, I'd say go for it.
  19. Yeah, you have to move the handle to the right in order to get it past 4HI. They did that so you don't overshoot 4HI while engaging while driving. Shooting into 4LO while driving could cause lots of breakage.
  20. It's still there, we just don't see it.
  21. If you can find one, probably be a good idea. Then you wouldn't need any exhaust modifications, so it would actually be less work. Either way you're doing wiring.
  22. Why no offroading? If you're worried about the centercaps, just take'm off before you hit the trail.
  23. 3.55s won't be an issue. 4cyls with the 4 speed manual came with 3.55s. If the 2.8 can turn 3.55, then the 2.5 will not have a problem. If you're gonna bother with it, you will have to swap all the wiring over. Try to get a newer MPFI system if you can. The advantage is they at least used the same transmissions, so you'll just need the motor, manual flywheel, and wiring.
  24. Not even worth asking yourself that. Look for a 4x4 XJ parts donor. Easier to come by, and probably cheaper. Converting is fun!
