  1. I think it's more of a "why would you bother?" look.

    WTB: 88-92 MJ

no love for the 86s? :(
  3. How you liking that WJ so far?
  4. Well I'm home. Got all those stupid sensors off, a shower and I feel human again. They got me on a newish med(Tambocor) that they tell me they're having really good luck with, supposed to go back in in 4 weeks for a checkup. Thanks for the support guys  Hopefully the weather will cooperate long enough for me to get ahold of an oil pan and actually fix the @%*&ing XJ.
  5. This applies to shortbeds... dunno how much help it will be, but I had a thread up when I was swapping beds. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16305
  6. You can also disconnect the UCAs at the axle, trackbar at the axle, and sway bar links.. that should allow you to get the springs out and give you enough play to get the spacers in. Or you can drop the axle entirely.
  7. I'm pretty sure there's more than 6. The shortbeds have 8.
  8. I have heard about an engine "shock" on the 2.5(even though I've never seen one on my 91), because the things shake so much.
  9. Must've been one hell of a favor.
  10. Close... the transfercase itself IS the same. The shifter plate is different. There's also a clocking difference between the XJ/MJ and YJ, but that's done with the holes in the rear of the transmission, not on the T-case.

    Hello all

    :waving:
  13. Don't have the whole 97+ doors? The whole door can be a direct replacement for the 84-96 ones.

    Not an MJ

Whatever company that made the Jeep bikes did do something a little different... some of the models actually came 2wd. They had driveshafts inside the frame that ran from the rear wheel to the front, and you could actually power both wheels. I believe they ran somewhere around $5k.
  15. Thanks guys. I just finally came around from the absolute worst headache I've ever had. They didn't let me eat at all, so I went with no food, no water since 10-11 last night, and I didn't even have an I.V. for a good 14 hours. They finally gave me food, but it was too late to stop it. Luckily what I've got isn't too bad. All my labs and stuff were good. Best they can figure it came from a combination of stress and excessive caffeine(hospital bill is totally gonna help the stress issue, and I'm gonna cut back on the caffeine). They're putting me on maintenance pills. Nah, I'm not "undercover". They have a wireless network setup specifically for patients and guests. Not much to do in here. The Cardiologist still wants me to go in for the shock treatment, although I'll have to schedule it, can't do it here. Good news is my mom picked up my 29spl 8.25 today.
  16. Anyone else have this? I got to ride in the ambulance this morning because a few seconds after I woke up, my heart started beating really fast and irregular. It's really not too serious in the short term, but I'm glad I came in. They may have to shock my heart back into rhythm, and I may end up being here for a few days. Oh, and typing with an O2 sensor on your right index finger sucks. :fs1:
  17. Thanks for the info guys, I'll have to check out that stuff. Good to know there's no carrier break, I should know that. I know selectables run higher, I'll check out ARB.
  18. I'm soon to be getting a dirt cheap 29 spline 8.25, and I plan on rebuilding the thing before putting it in anything. Basically have a few questions.. Carrier break: This axle has 3.55. I would like to go to 4.10. Same carrier, or no? Axle shafts: I know the factory 29 spline shafts are pretty stout, but I wouldn't mind putting some slightly stronger ones in and using the factory shafts as spares. Locker: I would really prefer selectable. I like as little automatic-ness in my vehicle, and I would prefer it either locked or not, no maybes. Any 8.25 experts out there? I know some of you will say just find a D44, and if I come across one before I start buying up parts I'll probably go with that.
  19. First thing I would check is the nut that holds the wheel on. I doubt this is the case, but it would be nice for that to be the problem instead of needing a new column.
  20. In case you didn't know, XJ columns are the same. Any column 84-94 should go in pretty easily.
  21. I thought those were gone in 97? Even if it does have it, wouldn't it start up for a few seconds, then die? That's what my first XJ(88) did when the resistor went out.
  22. Or maybe a bunch of people who knew the answer didn't check this post because you had tread, and some of us don't know squat about tires. Also, this could very well have been one of those "Where's that thread with the info I need" Threads.
  23. Correct. Ground it out and you should be good.
  24. This is true for the AX-4/5, and AX-15, but I would assume the same rule applies for the Pukey. All the gears and bearings between your 2wd and 4wd transmissions should be the same. You could probably yank it back out 'rebuild'(I don't consider using used parts as a rebuild) it, put it back in, and the noise might go away. But, it might not. But it does sound more like the throwout bearing. The internal slave/throwout bearing in my 4.0 MJ was perfectly fine before I swapped to a 4wd trans. Something happened to it during the swap, and as soon as I started driving with the 4wd tranny, if I had the clutch put in, I had a horrendous grinding noise come from it, and I'm amazed it didn't explode on me during the 560 mile trip to MO. But back to your question. Yes, you could probably 'rebuild' the trans. But why? Your time is much better spent locating and throwing in an AX-15.
