whats my best option for engine
Geonovast replied to 86customanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the rad support differences would be more of a mentionable concern than the 5 minutes spent pounding on a firewall. -
A renix AW-4 will be a direct swap... HO ones can be made to work, but I'm not entirely sure what needs to be done. There's no difference in the actual transmission between column shift and floor shift. If you grab a donor transmission from an XJ, just grab the floor shift kit, and it'll go right into your truck. You can also grab the steering column and swap that in too, to get rid of your column shift. This will also easily let you upgrade to the full gauge cluster, as from what I understand, ALL column shifts received dummy light clusters.

whats my best option for engine
Geonovast replied to 86customanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
90 was Renix, and 96 was was weird screwed up year for electronics. jimoshel- I've noticed that even with all your 2.5s, none of them had an AX-4. 2.5/AX-4 combo received 3.55 gearing and was somewhat a dog on it. Granted, I think my 2.5 is on its way out... but I'm thinking of going 3.73 axle gearing and rebuilding the motor with a generous bore, and a cam if I can find one. -
91 4.0 install / fluid leak question...
Geonovast replied to 1991MJPioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You mean the top two torx bolts? Throw them out!! They're easily replaced by regular hex head bolts, and can be easily snugged up with a wrench from the engine bay. As for the fluid leak, You may have simply pushed some excess fluid out of a seal in your internal slave when you reinstalled the motor. When the motor was removed, the slave was able to extend out further than normal, and when you put it back in, the fluid wouldn't have had anywhere to go without the pedal pushed down.. just a guess. It may be fine, but it may cause you problems down the road. I would start looking for an external slave setup now, so you can swap it in when you have time/need to. -
The 2.5 does not have an oil filter adapter. The part you saw sticking out of your transmission bellhousing is the bleeder for your internal slave cylinder.

Random information. Stuff like this: -
I think 78s are 10 inch.
-
Usually when that happens is because someone has reported it as offensive. If he could have showed the DMV that it meant something else, he could have kept it. Yeah, that's what we figured happened. I have two problems with that though... He did report it as meaning something else. My dad is a huge vinyl album collector... and 33s are 12 inches in diameter. Second is people need to get over themselves and just deal with it. No license plate can be so offensive that you can't just sluff it off and move on. You'll probably never see it again, anyway.
-
Why not? They let my dad have BIG12IN for a year before he got a letter in the mail telling him he needed to change it. As far as I'm concered... if you get past the screening when you initially get the plate.. they shouldn't be able to tell you to change it later.

That's... awesome.

steering wheel straightening?
Geonovast replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Another thing to check before adjusting the draglink(if you bought it like that) is to pop the horn stuff off and make sure the steering wheel is lined up correctly on the splines. It can go on wrong. I had the steering column fixed in my first XJ (the tilt stuff was all shot so it bounced around), and the guy that fixed it put the steering wheel back on incorrectly, so it looked like it was always to the left, even though the draglink was never touched. -
I'm using Firefox and I have no problems uploading to photobucket. :dunno:

Didn't GM have a 4.1 litre inline 6? It's been my experience that most people, especially those yahoos on CL, don't know what the 'V' in V6 means. They just think all 6 cylinders are V6s because that's the most common terminology now.

My mom got me a Jeep coffeetable book a few years ago that has pics of that in it. Apparently they made 3 of the Jeep ones... one with a 258, one with a 360, and one just a fiberglass mockup.

Every 4.0 my family's had (4 Renix, 5 HO) had a vertical oil filter.
-
The HO's did have a better exhaust system, yes, but it's more than that. The HO was introduced when Chrysler switched over to their control system. All new wiring, ECU, vacuum, etc. Physical differences are different port locations on the head, The timing is slightly different, and the pilot hole on the crank was changed (no idea why, but it was)

steering wheel straightening?
Geonovast replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I shouldn't have to say this, but I will just to make sure, as I've neglected to do this when dropping the steering to remove the axle. Make sure the steering wheel is not locked!! -
You mean the shift rail for 1st and 2nd? Identical to an AX-4's, different from an AX-15's.

4.0/5 SPEED TO 4.O/Auto
Geonovast replied to COMANCHE45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You'll want to swap axles if yours are factory. The auto is going to DOG in those 3.07s. Why do you want the auto? -
how to ajust fuel to my carb on my 2.5
Geonovast replied to jeep stuff's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Next time you stop, pop the hood and look around for puddles... wet spots, etc. in the engine bay, and on the ground. -
Internal slave hyd line?
Geonovast replied to garyindiane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm 99.9% sure the Pukey and AX-15 internal slaves use different parts, and are not interchangeable. -
