  1. 96 was the first year of OBDII, and a lot of stuff was changed in 97, so basically, 96 is kind of a standalone year when it comes to the ECU/sensors/wiring. There's really nothing to look for on an XJ that you wouldn't look for on an MJ. They're essentially the same vehicle. Biggest points are the rust spots under the fender flares and floors. There's one up at that dealership that IIRC is a 99, two door, 5 speed, 4wd with a lift already on it. Yeah I'll be around next week. Really don't have anything going on at all until the 23rd, although we will be in Laurie Tuesday morning.
  2. So, does it run for a little bit, then die.. Or does it die a few seconds after startup? If it's the second option, I would bet it's your ballast resistor. To test that, you can jump the wires on it to see if it makes any difference. Resistor looks like this, mounted on the driver's inner fender.
  3. Yes, but the question is why? There's no rush. You're not in any sort of hurry. This isn't a crowded chat room. If you were even reading your own posts you could see why we have such a hard time talking to you. Just slow down a bit. With a little practice, you can learn to type quickly and correctly. It really is not too much to ask that you at least try to make yourself legible. Read over your posts before you submit them.
  4. This is the best I could do without actually crawling under the truck... didn't want to risk getting snow on the camera. It's on the passenger side, between the unibody and the leaf spring bracket. It's on the inner bottom corner, right next to where the exhaust runs.
  5. What do you mean the yoke is too big? What's too big? They should use the same U-joints... and the YJ yoke allows for extreme angles. Why did you get another BA 10/5? Why not an AX-15?

  7. Unfortunately during my 4wd trans swap, I discovered some frame rot under my 4.0. All I found was on the frame, none on the unibody. I think it looks fixable, but being unable to weld and having little to no fab skills and frame experience, I thought I'd ask the experts before I started deciding what to do for spring.
  8. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20695 This must have been up when you were out.
  9. Grab'm off a ZJ with a 44 from a yard.
  10. If it is an issue with the timing, I would put my money on a loose chain. If it had skipped a tooth, it wouldn't rev that well. If the chain is loose, it could be pulling just fine when accelerating, then the momentum of the cam changes it's position when you let off the throttle... throwing off the valves, injectors and spark. Pull the cap off, and turn the motor back and forth with a ratchet to see if there's a lot of play before the dist moves.
  11. Column shift? As in Automatic? That would be an AW-4. BA 10/5 and AX-4 are both manual transmissions, and the AX-4 is a 4 cylinder transmission.
  12. That's an AX-15.
  13. IIRC, yours is a longbed too, right? Or am I getting that CRS thing?
  14. He just logged into Facebook so I would assume he's in one piece.
  15. He hasn't logged into chat today. Did you try texting him?
  16. Here's a couple of the blue one. If yours has the BA 10/5 then it's by far not a clone. Mine's a 91.. therefore HO.
  17. XJs doing... well, decent. Making noise, loud exhaust, funky oil pressure, falling apart, but hey, it's an XJ. It'll get me where I'm going. We probably won't be up till sometime in Feb, and it'll be for a decent length of time. Yeah... they are a little chilly. See all the snow? That's all we got and all the schools closed thurs and friday. Most of them closed for friday by noon on thursday.

  21. I know, crappy day to do it, but I happened to be outside when I remembered to do it.. I took a few pics of the frame damage on the blue one... they suck because: 1. My phone sucks 2. I didn't want to crawl under. I'll get some better ones eventually..
  22. Yeah, I'd like to see this article as well!
  23. A DIY on this would be awesome. I have too many to fix. Out of 6 mirrors.. one works. Just remember, you cannot take too many pictures.
