    Chat room!...

  2. Nope, that wasn't added until IIRC 97.
  3. Pull in neutral sounds like a bad gear main bearing. Throwout bearing couldn't have anything to do with that.
  4. But for a cursory glance, since the AX-4/5 and AX-15 look similar, the AX-4/5 has a steel midplate, while the X-15 has an aluminum one. AX-4/5: AX-15:
  5. Being in gear doesn't get the lube moving that much more. All it does is allow the output shaft to be spinning as well. Even in neutral, all the gears are still meshed, and turning as long as the clutch is engaged.
  6. Thanks for the memory of that horrendous movie. :wall:
  7. I'm starting to think this thing's a scam. I remember awhile seeing two posts, from two different places on CL, several hundred miles away both selling this truck at the same time. The actual truck is probably tucked away safe with its creator. I mean really, who could possibly have the know-how, ambition, resources, and money to do this... and then sell it?
  8. What gearing are you running?
  9. What do you need to do to the trans? If you're filling with fluid, yes you can fill through the shifter hole. Anything else, however, can be easily done by removing your transmission, throwing it away, and buying yourself an AX-15. It is not worth putting any money into that transmission other than new fluid.
  10. Because even though the production run was 12 years, even a 96 nowadays is 14 years old.
  11. There's splines on both shafts for the CAD. They have to be lined up in order for the collar to slide over. You can refill the fluid through the plug in the diff cover. The fluid runs through the axle tube from the diff to the CAD.
  12. No need to be on jackstands, as you can line everything up by turning the driveshaft by hand. There is a gasket there. When I did mine, I just pulled it off, left the gasket on, and didn't bother with RTV when I put it back on. Just wiped it down, and bolted it back on. Just beware you're going to lose fluid when you do this. I avoided that because my axle happened to be off of the vehicle when I did it, so I simply rolled it forward.
  13. So if I'm following this correctly, locking the CAD and "disabling" the vacuum-assist will ensure that the lever in the cab will positively engage and disengage the 4wd system? Correct. Jeep did away with the CAD by the end of 93 anyway, and all Jeeps with a 228/229/242 have a non-CAD 30 as well.
  14. Lock the CAD and be done with it.
  15. I talked to the current owner of the next one I'm probably going to own.

    Woohoo!

I've (personally) seen on 4.0 seize. My family's owned 4 Renix 4.0s and 4 HO 4.0s. The only one to ever die was the newest one, a 98. We still haven't figured out why. It was a well-maintained motor. Maybe he didn't abuse it enough? :dunno: I can't wait to open that motor up.
  17. Yup.. Your IAC may be dirty. It would be a good idea to pull your throttlebody, pull the IAC off (Leave the TPS ON!), and spray everything down with an O2 safe throttlebody cleaner, and scrub it good with an old toothbrush. IAC being stuck/dirty is the cause of a good number of idle problems. My XJ will idle at about 2000 for about 15 seconds every once in awhile right after startup.

    Woohoo!

I have both... and prefer both. Renix is nice for a daily driver, as I've said before I was getting 26 mpg in my XJ before I put a different motor in. But when I wanted to go out and just drive to drive, my HO was always good for that.
  19. Every 4.0 I've had idled at 500-700.
  20. Only thing prettier than a rustless MJ is a Rustless MJ actually sitting on snow.
  21. Yup... 4wd shouldn't be advertised as it is. Especially with all these "smart" 4wd/awd systems. 4wd helps you go. 4wd helps you maintain control. 4wd helps you turn. 4wd does NOT help you stop, which is kinda the most important thing when you're on slippery roads.
  22. Dash wiring should have been swapped too.
  23. The one in my shed says no.

    New Toy

"clutch adjustment" :hmm: ] Nice catch though
  25. Ugh. As if all the people advertising Grands and not specifying that they're a Grand wasn't bad enough.... then we get this yahoo.
