  1. The overload springs are on the bottom of the springpack. There's no way for the to move unless the centering pin broke, and even if they did walk, they'd fall out of the springpack, and make the axle, well, probably slide back on the spring.
  2. I added about 1/2 of a bottle of the Lucas stuff a few months ago with the motor swap. Didn't seem to help anything :dunno:
  3. Do you mean right in front of the cat? That's a flange and should have a gasket. You could probably take it apart, replace the gasket and the bolts, and be fine.
  4. How good are your bumpstops?
  5. Tie it down with a jock strap. :rotf:
  6. I didn't think I would, but I like it.
  7. Alright, sounds like a plan. I'll try that first. I just really don't want to drop the pan if I don't have to.
  8. What about just pulling the plug and taking a look there? I am really looking forward to tearing this thing apart when I can. I've never had an auto apart before, and I think this one will be most informative.
  9. You're just sayin' that cause yours is a mile long. :rotf:
  10. Aren't there dipstick breakage issues with removing the pan? The only auto trans pan I've ever pulled was a TF727 in my J10.
  11. I've talked to a few people already, but I figured a few more opinions can't hurt, and some of you might know some magic trick for this. The AW-4 in the XJ is really, really acting up. Since I bought the truck, the only problems I had with the trans, was it didn't always go into gear right away when you'd put it in Drive or Reverse. But a few days ago, it started acting really strange. The original problem got worse, and when ever I'm in reverse and giving it gas, I get a loud squaking sound. It sounds like a dying power steering pump(which mine does whine), but it only does it in reverse. It sounds like it's coming from the bellhousing area. I'm also getting a bad vibration in 2nd and 4th in certain RPMs... and I just noticed tonight that 3rd is starting to do it a bit too. Enough that I can feel it in the steering wheel. This transmission only has to last me long enough for us to get a new XJ so I can toss an AX-15 in. I've thought of a fluid change, but I don't know whether it would make it worse, or better. Thoughts?
  12. My entire computer screen is 1024 wide x 600 tall. Yes... I'd say yours was a taaaaaaaaad excessive.
  13. Just for reference my sig is 100 pixels high and 700 wide. Is that too big for any of you?
  14. I must've missed something, last sig of his I saw was IIRC 200 pixels high.
  15. Bandwidth is not affected. All pics in posts and signatures are hotlinked, not actually stored on CC. If it's a personal bandwidth problem, I suggest getting ABP for firefox. You can block signature pics, and your browser will no longer load them.
  16. Feel free to disable sigs in your control panel.
  17. Doesn't matter, you can pop it into 4wd whenever you want, as long as you're not going excessively fast or on dry pavement. Going in and out of 4 Lo, however, must be done in neutral and at a dead stop.
  18. You can swap in a 23 spline input shift into your 231.
  19. CPS is what tells the computer when the pistons are in the right place so it can fire the spark. You can't bypass it, you can't hook it up to a switch. Yes, it can die in the middle of the road like that. Doesn't mean that's what it is, but it could be.
  20. You'd pop the tire... Tires can be re-tread, and from what I understand, it's a tad cheaper than buying new.
  21. CPS
