86 Comanche starter motor
tjjeejeepcomanche replied to tjjeejeepcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Some partsof the West Midlands are nice!... We have a great supplier here who ships in from the States so it's not too bad for parts, and of course old faithful Rock Auto always help.... Cadbury chocolate is now American owned by Kraft, caused a lot of problems here as another British industry bit the dust, but hey they call it progress ;) We became Jeep nuts by default it was neve intended, mind you our surname is...Jee, so what else could we be!... If you want to swap places, we'd much rather be in NC!! ..... Have a great day x -

Thanks Jeff, I have an e12 but it didn't want to go on, will have to persuade it! - I had spotted the exhaust being in the way, that can come off pretty easy - but at least I know I'm looking at the right bolts! Thanks, your a star! Tracy -

Thanks, think this may be on the straight 6 not the 4- but I'll have a look....I need all the help I can get! -
Help! ... My starter motor has stuck..I need to get it off, the pictures in my manual don't help much and I have limited knowledge ... I have an 86 Comanche 2.5 petrol inline 4 - (AMC 150) .... all original no mods... Looking at it from underneath engine (working out on the road, no pit, no ramp! and it's chucking it down with rain!) - it looks to me like 2 long bolts either side of motor to remove it (as well as disconnecting starter solenoid) - these bolts look like TX star bolts? removeable by TX (star) socket - well that's what we call them here (UK) - am I right? - then is it an E13 socket? (I bet it is because that's the one I don't have and can't find over here) ....... :shake: I can't get a picture yet as the rain and general darkness/oily engine are making it impossible right now!... any help and advice much needed as I need my truck back on the road as it's my daily driver and I can't get to work!....

Engine swap ideas please...
tjjeejeepcomanche replied to tjjeejeepcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys, I wondered about the LHD/RHD thing, mine is LHD and I have NO intention of changing that, - a Chevvy 350 is in the lead at the moment, no problems with the laws here, just got to take it to a centre when done to ensure is all OK..... soz but no no no to a diesel..If I'm gonna swap it, I want a meaty rumble.... Keep the ideas coming, I can read French so I'll check out that site - and as for France being closer than America,...dang nab it, it is! :rotfl2: :clapping: -
OK...I am fed up of my poor little 2.5 petrol engine not coping... so over the winter I plan to swap the engine, I have lots of rodders as friends and have had various engine suggestions...350 Chevvy, 318 Chrysler, 327.... etc etc...but i was wondering if any of the 4 litre Jeep engines would swap straight in.... now please remember, I am a girl, I know a little about cars and custom/rodding, but I don't know a lot about Jeeps AND I live in the UK, so any donor jeep I could get would be a RHD European model...... where should I start?.... :help:

Timing? low idle issues...
tjjeejeepcomanche replied to tjjeejeepcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It cuts out until warm,(and if you go into full lock on reverse) and idles at about 700 revs - generally you can hear it struggling and it does "hunt" - just recently the battery light comes on at speed (60mph) too so am guessing my alternator may be failing too?... (however I think the guy who had the truck before me put a different alternator on as there has been a new bracket put on to hold it?.... There is also a bottom end rattle on the engine which I was told was related to the timing - it also runs on a little after the inginition is switched off ..... I can't even find a spec in the FSM but I think 700 - 750 RPM is the correct idle speed, so you are not idling "way too low." And a low-end rattle is usually an indication of bad rob bearings, not timing issues. Timing on these engines is not adjustable, anyway. It sounds like you have other issues. I was told they weren't adjustable, so I am guessing that a sensor may be malfunctioning, I have no idea where to start as I have never owned a fuel injected motor.. strictly a carburettor gal in the past .... it is getting worse, and will not tick over until its been running for about 5 mins with my foot on the gas pedal.... anyone out there tell me where to start?...... well, new leads , cap/rotor arm and a clean of the MAP sensor seems to have helped..here's hoping! ... -

OK, I have a 2.5 injection Comanche - it idles way too slow - I am lead to believe they should self adjust owing to various sensors .... but it isn't adjusting - any tips??....
