  1. Ummm ... he wrote that he has an '88 MJ. It could not have a V6 (unless it was swapped in by an especially masochistic previous owner). An '88 will have (sorry, "should" have) either a 2.5L I-4 or a 4.0L I-6. He is partly correct though, the 2.5L uses the same bolt pattern as a GM 60* V6, so a 3.4 would bolt up to an AX-5 previously behind a 2.5L.
  2. So you coming out this weekend then? :brows:
  3. The AMC family of Inline 6 motors were made in Kenosha, WI.
  4. Ever heard of a CJ? MJ is the classification for Comanche. XJ is Cherokee YJ is the Wrangler from 87-95 TJ is the Wrangler from 97-07 ZJ is Grand Cherokee from 93-98 Full list of that stuff, and acronyms here for ya : viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12815
  5. I think I just found a new best friend. :rotf:
  6. The MJ AMC 20 is about as strong as a D44, should be more than strong enough for a 2.5
  7. For now. I bet you anything over the next 5 years, they're going to be damn near impossible to find. They're "clunkers", remember?
  8. A few months ago my fiance' and her mom drove half an hour one way for one of her appointments... to find out the doctor wasn't going to make it in that day. Which is fine, doctors are still people, and things come up. But a PHONE CALL telling them not to come in would have been nice. Pretty convenient how when you miss a doctors appointment, they can bill you for them having to move their schedule around, but when they ditch you, they don't have to pay you for your traveling expenses or having to reschedule.
  9. Or you could be Pat, and find a rebuilt shortblock for it sitting on the curb up the road waiting for trash pickup.
  10. The GM 3.4 V6 is a good replacement for the 2.8, which was only used in 86 in Comanches, and 84-86 in Cherokees. Being an 88, you can only have a 2.5L Inline 4, or a 4.0. For all the work of going to a V6 from a 2.5, it's better to just go with a 4.0, and get a better motor, and keep it Jeep.
  11. Do you know which transmission you have? Two different manuals were used behind the 4.0 in 89. The Peugot BA 10/5, and the Aisin AX-15. The pukey has a nasty habit of not wanting to go into 2nd when it's cold. Does it shift better after you've been driving around? This thread will tell you how to tell the difference: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11699
  12. You are forgetting one thing my friend. Metric Ton's were always longbeds. What they weren't was always D44's. :fool: Rob L. :smart: Unless someone decided to put MT springs, a D44, and the badges on a swb before you got it from the yard. :fool: But we should all know better, and if it had been a MT SWB, I would have specified. Rob L. :smart: Us old farts, yes, but for all you knew, a new guy could jump on here, say he's got a shaft, assume you have a shortbed(or not know lwbs existed), and ship you a shaft 6 inches too short. See how much typing not typing - lwb, - got ya? :rotf:

  14. Bed length? :fool: :fool: Longbed. Unless MT's came in another flavor... Rob L. Well, smart alec, you bothered to specify D44. :fool: It's a Jeep. For all you know, they did make swb MTs.
  15. I looked at the one you suggested, but I think I'm gonna go for this one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... R&v=glance I didn't like the pressure range options of the SG tool aid 34550. Having problems ordering though, won't go to a PO box.

  17. Any amount of lift will affect it. Shouldn't be too hard to make yourself another rod that's 2" longer.
  18. :agree: A T40 bit and one of these do wonders.
  19. With all the funkyness my Jeeps like to give me in regards to oil pressure... I've decided to finally get one of these. You guys think this is alright? http://www.amazon.com/Engine-Oil-Pressu ... B002TK7CFK Or should I spend a few more pennies on something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Transmission-Engi ... B000I9RNGW
  20. Would slipping some threaded rod into the junk ones, and welding them to the block, and using nuts on the other side of the mount viable? Or am I way out of my league?
  21. If it's cut far enough down so there's no fitting, then you'll probably be best replacing the slave cylinder. 1" isn't much to work with if you try to add a new fitting. How did it get cut exactly?
  22. :clapping: Take before & after pics from the same angle in the same spot!
  23. I believe 89 knuckles should be able to go on a 97 axle, but some confirmation from a higher authority would be good.
  24. Hellcreek. The owner is a member here on CC, and gives a discount to members. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=19998 a 4.5" lift shackle would have to be at least 10 inches longer than stock... would look horrendous and no doubt cause you a ton of problems.
