????? on 4.10 gears in a dana 44
Geonovast replied to 88mjmanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm a little confused as to what you're asking... are the gears for a D44? -
Generally you have to change bellhousing when going from internal to external... I don't think you'll have to with this, but since you have to remove the transmission anyway, you might as well, so you can get rid of your external slave as a kit. The internal slave doesn't really mount to anything, but they usually have some sort of small rivet that goes into the bearing retainer... which is different between internal and external slave. But again, why, OH WHY, do you want to do this? External slaves are faaaar superior to internal setups.

Niiice. I'm certainly going to give that a try tomorrow. I really think the tach is shot though. Sometimes it reads fine, sometimes it's stuck, sometimes it reads high... and sometimes it wiggs out and jumps all over the place. Jumping back and forth between 0 and 4k while maintaining a steady speed, and the needle bounced on our crappy road. It also doesn't default to 0 when the key is off, it usually sticks wherever it was left. It was weird, the first time I drove it after it was installed, I started it up, and the tach jumped up, and settled down about 800, like normal. Then when I switched on the lights, it jumped up to about 1700, and then back down to 800 when I shut them back off. I was not moving or touching the pedal when this happened, and the motor obviously did not change speed. Will it give any error codes if something's wrong?

What you drivin' down Wade? -
You did buy it, didn't you?
-
I'm not seeing a denial.... :shake:
-
Essentially, yes they are. Doors are the same. Windshields are the same. But that doesn't mean the roofs are.
-
Get some good gas in it, and a little bit of Sta-bil and injector cleaner certainly wouldn't hurt anything.
-
Wouldn't be the first time he snuck under the table and grabbed an MJ you were looking at getting.

Interchangeable MJ & XJ parts?
Geonovast replied to drase's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As a general rule, 99.95% from the seats forward is the same, given same year, same options. Exhaust after the trans crossmember is different, the rear axles are essentially the same, except for how they mount. Rear springs are completely different, however. Are you looking at something specifically? -
How bad did the truck get submerged? I take it that it ran fine before the floods?
-
The blinker unit itself is probably going bad. Swap it with your 4-way blinker, and see if it makes a difference.
-
The XJ and MJ visors are not the same, the roofs are shaped differently.
-
Mine came UPS, but then again, we didn't get the same one.
-
So it's running now?
-
It's a 99 XJ. :hmm: But I know what you're sayin. The oil pressure gauge I can test because I got my mechanical gauge today, I have no reason to doubt the temp gauge, because it's never given any hint of running hot, and the gauge stays right about 205 when warmed up. The tach being fubared isn't really any issue. It would be nice to know RPM, but not necessary. I'm not discounting that I may have somehow screwed something up when I had the cluster apart to change the odo... which of course didn't work anyway.
-
Only reason I have access to lots of test equipment is that I got most of the stuff at a gov auction for about $10 many years ago. :D Wanna drive up here and test the tach for me? :rotf:

Wouldn't the TB on 87-90 2.5L YJs be the same as well?
-
Most of the YJ wiring and accessories won't work too well in an MJ. :(

LKQ Trip and Meet and Greet > APRIL 10TH, 2010.
Geonovast replied to Automan2164's topic in Great Lakes
The way it looks right now. All 3 of us are coming up. So we'll probably be going to Madison that Friday night, to stay at my brother's. So Rob, I probably won't be spending the night Friday. This way too, Jo and the baby won't have to come along to the JY and shop. I'm sure Jo wouldn't mind, but I'm not bringing an 8 month old there. Especially one as loud as she is. I'll also probably be staying up there a few more days since I'll have no immediate reason to come back to MO. Pete, since I'll be going to Madison first, I'll see if my brother and his power tools want to come along. Not only has he not had a chance to use his sawzall yet(AFAIK), his are 19.2 V Craftsman, and I bought him an extra battery with the combo kit, so he's got 3. I'm thinking we could come up through IL and stop by for a bit Friday night if you guys would like to meet the family. -

My sawzall's corded. :( I just bought my brother this for Christmas. I should have brought home one for me, too. -
Would it be the fault of the child if it was born with genetic disease? I think not. :smart: :rotf: I'm not doubting that. I'm going to pull the cluster back out next chance I get and see if I can't fond the problem. Wouldn't surprise me if the gauge was shot though, since last time I shut it off, the tach was reading 1900 rpm. It may have just behaved well for you cause it knew you were selling it to me. :dunno: Tach isn't that big of a deal(with it being a *^#$ing automatic), but at least the other gauges work.
-
The tach being bad isn't this XJ's fault. It's the 01 XJ's fault that the cluster came from.
