A must see .... TRIP PICS FINALLY UP! Pg 6 *****************
Geonovast replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
We might stop by Friday night on our way through. But I'll see ya again Saturday morning. Still not entirely sure how I'm getting there... that all depends on my non-communicative brother. -
Good plan. Pop off the connector, and set your multimeter to read resistance. Put one probe in the terminal on each wire, and it should read between 125 and 275 ohms. If it's out of that range, it's probably shot.
-
It certainly wouldn't hurt. It's a cheap enough seal. It's rather rare for them to go out, it's a very low pressure area. The only problem you might have is getting the old one out with the crank snout in the way. You might need to pull the timing cover to change the seal.

Yes, the 86 2.5 will have a CPS. It's identical to any 86-90 2.5 and 87-90 4.0's CPS. Are you near the truck? CPS can be easily tested with a multimeter without removing the sensor.

Harmonic balancer has absolutely nothing to do with timing, other than the #1 TDC mark on it. You only need that if you're trying to set the distributor. Changing the balancer can not possibly affect your timing.
-
Of course... How else would you change them? :dunno:

jk - 200 g's kelowna ya,serious

I hope he meant 20k. -
I just ran out and did the test again, and the tach went to 2k, 5k, 6k, 5k, 2k, 0. I had Jeepcomj run the test on one of his and it did the same thing. Could I have somehow "shocked" the tach into behaving better when I changed the plugs?

I've seen quite a few... when I went out to Pat's once to pick up an MJ for a friend... there was at least 8 there. Probably another 10 around Madison... 8 or 9 down here... There's two just up the road at a body shop, I'm trying to get my hands on the parts one... maybe 3 or 4 on the highways. I've dropped off cards whenever possible.

Will a 90 4.0 (AT) swap with 87 4.0 (5-Speed)?
Geonovast replied to runner6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pull the CPS before removing the motor, and reinstall after the motor's in! I learned this lesson the hard way. Granted, with getting a whole 'nother truck, you'll have a spare, but no need to break one. -
Looks like you need a 4wd swap. :brows:
-
You're here... I think? Having problems logging in?
-
Where are you at? Don't go through Camdenton to get to Hannibal?
-
I'm sure I'll be around, and not doing anything.

:hmm: Well, I saw a black MJ with a black topper drive though, pretty sure it was Thursday.
-
Black MJ with a black topper? YES! I did see you. I was sitting in the courthouse on the corner of 54 and old 7/5 :clapping: :clapping:  :brows:  :beerhead:

I tried this test on 4 MJ'S and 5 XJ'S. None of the others had a trip reset. Didn't work on any of them. No beep. No meter movement. Nada. It'll only work on 97+

I saw two others today, the one in town with the cab vents removed, and another one I haven't seen before. In the town on the other side, there's at least 2 red ones that I see on a regular basis, but I never seem to be able to stop, and I'd been cardless until later today, when I finally remembered to put my new cards in my wallet/XJ. This helps too: There's one on the front too, but the pic sucks and it's really not that readable. :dunno:

Towing capacity of a 1990 comanche
Geonovast replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can pull and get a decent amount going with that. I've heard of people pulling a 10,000lb trailer... but not on 3.07 gearing. I myself have pulled another MJ behind me (on the 4.0 HO/AX-15/D35/3.07 setup) with the bed full of random junk, and didn't have any problems getting going. The bigger question is how much can you stop? You could have a 360 in there, with an indestructable transmission, and a D44, but it won't mean squat unless you've got good brakes. -
My bad, I thought I'd seen it under there. You can search by location.. by doing this Unfortunately, it still doesn't display the location in the results. Looks like we'll have to deal with the Adventure Planning subforums for now. :( One of the little voices in my head is telling me that someone started a CC map once, where you get a world map, with pins in it where people are. I think the thread started before I even joined though.

Here's a thinker for ya guys. I changed the spark plugs today because it would occasionally miss while accelerating in OD. The old plugs didn't look damaged, weren't full of sludge or anything, just old. Now my tach works. The needle's still a little floaty when I hit a bump, but other than that, it seems to be working fine. I don't see how changing the plugs could have done this. :dunno: Any ideas?

Motor will be a direct swap. The only thing you'll have to change is swapping your flywheel onto the "new" motor, and you'll need to go get yourself a new pilot bushing. -
Hopefully I'll have a driveable MJ by then.

LKQ Trip and Meet and Greet > APRIL 10TH, 2010.

I always seem to forget the important stuff too, and remember just past the point in the 9 hour drive where it's not worth it to turn around.
