Carl'sMJ
There have been a couple of threads lately on oil filters... in particular Fram oil filters... and I learned some things I didn't know before. Along the same lines... what brands of oil are you guys using? What are some of the ups and downs of the different brands or are they all very similar? And how many here run synthetic motor oil? I currently have been using Quaker State 10W-30... Thoughts???
jeepdoggydogB
I use Chevron 10/30 (They are the local Oil Giant here in the S.F. Bay Area). I think any oil would be good, I used to love havoline many years ago but can't seem to find it out here anymore.
JeepcoMJ
I run WiX filters and parts master 10W30 oil. I will not run anything else.
Kenosha Warrior
Valvoline Special Mix for Industrial Diesel vehicles. Its free from my dad's work comes in 10w30 flavour and slides through a Wix filter.
jtdesigns
I'm using Rotella 15/40 and started using it in my Isuzu Rodeo a while back to help the lifters.. It has really helped and it has alot of additives that other oils removed.. I'm using a puraltor filter right now, but tracked down a source for Baldwin, which will be what I run after the next change.

88XJSport
I run either Mobil 1 10W30 or Castrol GTX 10W30, with a Robert Bosch filter.
Pete M
I run the cheapest oil I can find. :D Since none of my trucks get driven much and none of the engines in them are on my "keep forever" list, I see no need to run anything but plain-jane dino juice. I'll happily spend more money on the filter than the 6 quarts of oil. :brows:

Randy in Maine
NAPA Gold/WIX and Mobil 1 10-30 every 5K. I would go to Brad Penn oil for the zinc, but I don't want to clog up my cat converter.

chicofuentes0224
So 10w 30 would be a good choice for 220,000 miles on a 4.0 with a whole lotta sludge built up inside or should I use something differnt?
jeepthing07
10w40 Castrol syntec blend, STP oil treatment in the blue bottle (can't find the red) and WIX filter

Why do you think Brad Penn is gonna clog up your CAT? The way I see it Brad Penn is maintaining the same zinc level that my 1989 Comanche ran on for 19 years. Randy in Maine
I stand corrected. Here is some pretty good reading on different oil aspects, but keep in mind that most aircooled run significantly higher oil temps than anything we would expect to see on a Jeep. My new bus engine is getting the Brad Penn. http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html http://www.rdtlabs.com/Presentations/oi ... /frame.htm

I have 12 quarts of it sitting on the shelf. Waiting for a warm day to put it in.
Randy in Maine
So where do you buy it down there? I have to go to Wayland tomorrow.
bgred2
So where do you buy it down there? I have to go to Wayland tomorrow. I did quite a bit of searching for a good price on Brad Penn Racing oil. The 10w-30 has 1,500 ppm zinc. I finally found a place in NC that sold me a case of it for 39.49 plus 10.74 to UPS it to my door here in Massachusetts. That works out 4.18 per quart and I don't even have to drive to the store. I have read nothing but good about this oil................yet. http://kennedyoilco.com/
