Understood. Just seemed backwards to me, but then again I prefer to wrench with gloves on.

Also I tend to sweat when I wear gloves so I'd rather keep my moist fingers off of my vinyl anyways

That I definitely understand. I self lubricate my nitrile gloves during use also. I find it simplifies removal, but would definitely complicate the record scenario.

It’s moments like this that I thank the existence of digital libraries for my wrenching time so I don’t have to have a personal DJ like my wife to flip records or worry about my records getting dirty.

So I'm not quite full analog.  But I am working on recording some mix tapes for the Alpine cassette deck in the CJ.

Starting with my version of Queen's Greatest Hits.  It'll fit on 2 cassettes.  A 90 minute and a 60 minute.

But imagine if you had tunes out in the garage working on the Jeeps!

It really is! I’ve stuck to just nabbing records from goodwill vs buying off Discogs or eBay. Keeps it cheap and if goodwill does their grab bag 45’s, I listen to them all to expose myself to songs I’ve never heard and determine if I like them or not. Sometimes I’ll see some higher end turntables there and contemplate grabbing them but then just think that my set up is pretty good and does what all I need it to.

I'm pretty selective with what I have been picking up. Mainly new bands that I find or stuff you need physical media to listen because its not streaming or the remastered version sucks.

I think it's Intriguing that so many on CC have a serious Hi-Fi hobby... enough to build a serious setup through the years.

What are the Odds, Huh?

I mean the two go together honestly. Jeeps are from the 80’s cassette was peak popularity, vinyl was dying, CD tech was getting cheaper and more available. Yeah it adds up haha.

Somethings though that I’ve learned other than my old soul appreciates vinyl is that a lot of music is more or less lost in that era. Thanks to radio you don’t really hear songs by other groups unless it’s one of their popular pieces. And streaming doesn’t always have every song or every version of a covered song, YouTube is riddled with ads to make listening to music unbearable and having the physical media is nice and says “I own this”.

Agree. The biggest things for me are 1. like you said, i have many albums/singles that are not on streaming or even on youtube (especially for not on label pressings) and 2. not only do you not own anything on streaming, but the second that any of these services shuts down, everyone's extensive library is gone.

It's the same thing for video games. Developers/publishers can't do anything about owning a physical game disc, but it is known that buying games virtually isn't ownership, but a license to have/play it, which can be revoked at any time.  Many games have been abandoned or shut down and the license revoked from people that paid full price for it. My nightmare is that my thousands of songs on spotify would suddenly disappear with no way for me to remember everything that I lost.

I agree.  While my analog collection is pretty slim, I prefer to have a physical copy of my music.  Digital is so easy to deal with and that's what I ended up standardizing on.  Sure, it's not as warm as analog but I'm not enough of an audiophile to sweat the difference.

I started collecting CDs in the 80s.  I've been filling out my collection ever since.  I'm up to almost 800 albums on 850 discs.

I have a few LPs that were never offered on CD.  And a few LPs where the CD release changed the songs.

It would be a pain to re-rip all that music.  But I have it in my possession and could do it if my storage and backup fails.

And, BTW, if you store CDs yourself, DiscSox are your friend.  They let you fit it all on fewer shelves.

I'm buying MP3's now. Best thing that ever happen to my music. Carry it on a stick drive, goes anywhere. Now own 989 tunes as of today.  Analog sound is the best, but not to my old ears anymore.

I've as much or more of an addiction to the my stereo system than my MJ, at least longer anyway.  Been restoring and upgrading various components and am happy with the system I have in place for the moment.  The upgraded Kenwood C1 I did from the instructions by Leestereo on Audiokarma.  Sound improvement was Very noticeable.  I upgraded the opamps and tube in the Music Hall Dac also.  Amp is Rotel 200 watt RB990BX.  Oppo Bluray plays Super Audio CD's and DVD audio as well as regular CD's.  New Yamaha CD-603 carousel changer.  Turntable is Optonica RP4705 with Ortofon OM20.  Speakers are Definitive Technology 450's.

Other thing I've done is gotten onto bandcamp. Really trying to leave spotify and other shaddy digital platforms. Bandcamp pays artist decently and while I know a lot of the older or bigger names won't be there for small niche bands and music from around the world can't beat it for trying to support music.
