Been researching the newer 4.3 and there's just not a ton of info out about it. Apparently they came manual from the factory in Mexico but parts are next to impossible to find. And no one really makes an easy swap harness for it. I'm trying to make this a fairly easy and quick swap. The comanche is really my "let's try this" vehicle. I want the cherokee to be super basic and as easy as a swap as possible. I think I've come to terms with an LS, has to be an all aluminum though. unless a really good deal on a small block happens. Trying to pick up an nv3500 as I can save money on no adapter needed for the ax15.

I had thought about doing the original 4.3 swap as my cherokee is an 86 and has the different engine bay dimensions. But so much research led to me to its v6 power with v8 economy so really no point. My goal with thing is a super reliable daily, A/C, easy driving and great mileage. The newer 4.3 seems like it would be a great swap and the aftermarket is slightly there. Just have to make sure itll work with my ax15 or even a nv3500.

Now that would actually be a perfect swap. I have to research that alot more.

I would probably run holley sniper on the 350. But yeah, I know the LS makes the most sense. Its just I've already done it and want something a little different. As different as I can be with a 350 haha. Either swap is going to be pretty easy.

So I cannot take my 2.5 in the cherokee anymore. It is so abysmally slow and here in NJ is honestly dangerous. So ill be swapping in a v8. This one's going to be super basic, nothing like my comanche. Question is what to put in it. My brain says LS for obvious reasons but my heart says a good ol 350. Transmission will be a ax15 so itll work with either. This thing is super clean so I don't want to hack or cut up really anything. And I just feel like a 350 fits this jeep better than a LS. Opinions? If it do go 350 itll be the last years of it, the roller cam vortec. LS will be a 4.8 or 5.3.

What an absolute PAIN to get this setup, but man was it worth it when it all powered on.

So it seems these pressure switches for the 2.5 power steering are just non existent anymore. Mines blowing fluid out the connector so its totally done. Would like to find a replacement but there is nothing out there. Anyone have a workaround or am I just going to have the plug it?

Another roadkill nights trip in the books. Now with a trophy! Truck did great minus the brakes locking up and catching fire...but got it sorted out and drove home just fine. Now to figure out what the hell happened.

I would appreciate it. I know we've talked before about this thing but still can't find much info. Just going to leave it unplugged for the time being.

So trying to get my A/C going on my 86 cherokee. Alot of oddities for only the 86 which makes it fun. After replacing everything and charging the A/C i still couldn't get the compressor to turn on. Narrowed it down to this relay which I found is an anti-deiseling relay. There are 5 connections. 2 are together and 3 are together. The 2 connections are power and ground and the 3 are A/C relay power and then 2 other power wires. With the 2 pin connector installed, the relay removes power from the A/C relay. With the 2 pin connector removed, the relay is de-energized and allows power to the A/C relay and everything functions normal. I have 2 relays and both do the same thing so not the issue. The only thing I can think of is that something is telling the relay to enegerize when it shouldn't, but can't find where the 2 pin connector gets power from. Anyone have a 86 specific schematic or any info? Thanks.

Well i ordered the 1990 ECM. Guess we'll see how it runs with it and ill save mine as the backup.

So will the 90 work in the 86? Its cheaper but not by much if its going to cause issues. Or is it even worth it?

I have a 86 cherokee 2.5 and just gathering some spare parts for road trips. Rockauto just got the ECM in stock but then I remembered how the later years for the 4.0 are an upgrade. Does this hold true for the 2.5? The 1990 ECM is a different part number than the 1986.

Picked up some vintage for the comanche. Can't wait to get this all installed. Period correct for the win.

I did a fresh fill of the redline fluid. It shifts really well, just whines. It may be time for a clutch too.

Just a weeks worth of luggage and some spare tools. Nothing crazy.

So been putting some serious miles on the new to me cherokee. Its a 2.5 / ax5. Its definitely hard going from that to my comanche and back again. Only about a 600hp difference lol. Anyway, this thing is staying stock, for now atleast, and its going to be on some long road trips coming up. The ax5 shifts pretty good, just whines a bit. Is this thing a ticking time bomb or am I just being paranoid? I also have the dana 35 and It's on 215 tires. Basically just want to know if I should be worried about it. Probably has about 190k on it. Not interested in an ax15 behind the 2.5 because if it comes to anything needed to be swapped out, its all coming out for an upgrade.

So just to follow up, found the issue. I rebuilt the throttle body as soon as I got the jeep so didnt think this would be the issue. As a hail Mary I went to rebuild the fuel regulator and found this Turns out it was filling the whole thing with has through the breather and I think pouring gas into the Throttle body through the air hole. What a pain
