Don Chair
I'm looking for led headlights, side markers, and turn signals. Any recommendations? I already have tail lights picked.
Pete M
I've been happy with the Auxito brand led bulbs I've using in more modern cars (turns and brakes). I get them off ebay. you can ditch the sealed beams by upgrading to aftermarket housings that take replaceable H4 halogen bulbs. (I'm not a fan of LED headlights). also get this so you can get a full 12v+ to your headlights: https://www.ebay.com/itm/185254776653
EdJarHead
Which LED lights did you use for the tail lights? Any modification/adapters required for them? Thanks!
ghetdjc320
On my last MJ, I used sylvania 1157 led bulbs from oreilly’s in the stock housings. They were drop in replacements. As long as you have some incandescent bulbs in the turn signal circuit, it’s normally enough for the flasher to operate. Otherwise you may need to switch to an LED flasher if you experience rapid or no flash.

Did they make a noticeable difference in the backup light coverage/output?

(also prevents your headlight switch from catching fire!)

Did they make a noticeable difference in the backup light coverage/output? cannot remember the brand, but did use some LED bulbs for backup... or tried... I had trouble with fitment in the socket, seemed like the pins were too shallow to engage, you just could not twist in the bulb to lock it... the solder "point" on the end of the bulb seemed like the place to modify, ruined one bulb trying that tactic... this was last fall, just cannot remember what I finally did... I was also repairing the housing from a broken tab holding the clip nut on the tailgate side of the housing... I made an entire metal clip to sandwich the plastic and allow the screw to bite... so far so good on that.... was cheeper than a housing!!! some others applaud the illumination difference
pizzaman09
These LED lights for the reverse lights are a phenomenal upgrade compared to stock. From my build thread: https://comancheclub.com/topic/68921-1990-comanche-eliminator/?do=findComment&comment=745859 Upgraded reverse lights with these light bulbs based on someone's recommendation on the forum. Thanks in advance!

My experience is that the harness will give about twice the light. Also, the H4 housings will give about twice the light (with out the harness). With an Autopal, Hella, Bosch and CIBIE, and harness, I'd say 4X. Daniel Stern use to sell the CIBIEs. He now sells a Japanese made ones. He rates them better. AnotherOldJeepGuy
Sounds promising. I'll start with just the harness and see what I get with that, but might move further.

Thanks in advance! I'll try, but the truck I installed them in isn't mine and lives about an hour away. essentially the relays live over by the battery and the wire is run next to the factory harness. Salvagedcircuit
For the B-pillar lights, I went with Qasim 3000k 240 lumen festoon leds They were the brightest easiest to acquire leds I could find in that color temp. I simply just bent the metal loops back 90 degrees and they fit into the stock festoon holder. I really hate the 5000k+ color temperature aftermarket LEDs. It looks like a blue-white to me. The 2700-3000k color temperature more accurately represents the incandescent - halogen color temperature range and to me, and its easier on the eyes. It's also more period correct hehehe
Spinnakerblue89
Hanging around the Mercury Cougar forum, I stumbled upon Plasma LEDs that people swear by. I haven't put any in mine yet, but I know somebody that has installed PLEDs in the reverse lights on his XJ, and boy oh boy. Also, Off-Grid Research offers an LED turn signal flasher relay. I have one in my MJ, works well.
