farmboi
Anybody have a couple good sets of seals / gaskets for the backs of these that they'd be willing to part with? Or a source? Getting ready to replace/upgrade the worn-out plastic handles on my truck.
89 MJ
I think you might have to make them. The metal door handles were 84-86 only if I remember right. I’m not sure if all of the chrome ones were metal or not, but I doubt that anyone makes the gaskets for them.

Black metal handles stopped being made in 87 for the cheaper plastic. Kinda odd. I remember when I put metal door handles on my MJ to just make new ones, I honestly never did and just put the door handles on because I live in the desert where there’s hardly any rain. AZJeff
New gaskets can be fabricated from 1/16” thick ABS sheet plastic that is available on Amazon.
Tex06
Autozone also sells gasket material by the roll. I had some leftover from another project and I fabri-cobbled my own.

The kind of gaskets used on door handles are a molded thermoplastic that is UV tolerant. Gasket material for sealing auto engine, transmissions, etc. is not make of the type of material that will withstand exposure to direct sunlight for long periods, and will probably deteriorate pretty quickly if used on door handles. ghetdjc320
I was able to source some good used ones with my metal handle swap but it would be great if someone could reproduce the door handle gaskets and especially the mirror gaskets. @Dzimm or @boxyjeep
boxyjeep
Certainly something that could be 3D printed with TPU. Unfortunately not on my roadmap right now.
farmboi
Thanks for all the input. I don't have any to duplicate, so I'll try the junk yard again. Hopefully I can find a decent set to pattern off of.
Eagle_SX4
I remember when I pulled some handles off a 94 XJ in the junkyard it did not have gaskets on any of the handles (I pulled all 4). I don't know if the gaskets were only on the early XJ/MJ's or if the one in the junkyard just didn't have any gaskets. Also if you want to make sure no water gets in through the door handles. The handles I pulled off the 94 XJ had o-ring seals around the push buttons. My 87 handles did not have the o-rings. I also found out that both front and rear XJ door handles are the same. So you could end up with 2 sets off one XJ.

Do you have some pictures so I can get a better idea of the shape? As @boxyjeep said, I'd likely print in TPU if they have any shape to them. If they are flat I can make a die and cut from a sheet of UV stable rubber.
eaglescout526
I wonder if I have a couple of gaskets laying around. I’ll have to check Sunday. Or Monday.
Dzimm
Door handle gaskets and an antenna blank should be inbound Monday. Thanks @fiatslug87!

Any chance you’ll have these for the 97+ fenders as well? Another nice product would be a simple gasket for the door lock mechanism. YJ’s have them but they don’t fit MJ/XJs

Door lock gasket should be super easy as well.

Nice! Please let me know when you might have those available. Mirror gaskets would be awesome as well.
watchamakalit
Mirror gaskets should be the same as the ones he just made for the "mirror delete".

I believe the ones that he has for the mirror deleted are a bit different. The originals have a flange all the way around them and a bit different cut. Some original style replacements would be super handy
watchamakalit
I see. I didn't remember them being different. But it's been a while since I pulled mine for the tow mirrors. Now I gotta go pull my flag mirrors out and look.

Replaced mine 11 years ago. The gasket material I used was rubber-fiber if I remember correctly. Not exactly UV stable but, it lasted longer than OEM did (they tore last year when I took my door apart for paint). When you can't find an exact replacement, you make due. I'll be making my next set from rubber sheeting as my paint job is rough and I need additional flexibility to properly seal.
