damianriel
Starting this has been a few weeks coming, and as some of you may know, I purchased @Gjeep's 1989 Restoration truck. After a 12 hour drive to the bay area it was a warm welcome from Gianni and his family. He really is a stand up guy and put up with me asking questions and looking over his other projects and such for over 2 hours. Now, this isn't my first truck, however my previous project has been sitting quite a while and leaving it on the east coast when I moved to Arizona didn't help. You can find the original build thread here. Long story short, it was getting an LS swap. Now, the plan remains the same for this truck, sort of a resto-mod LS swap project. I've picked up a few small parts since picking up the truck, however I'm trying to figure out the logistics of getting my parts trove from the east coast to AZ. damianriel
After getting the truck home I started compiling a list of parts I knew I would still need This list was almost topped off by seats. I got a good deal for some maroon bucket seats with brackets off of facebook. The problem being they're maroon and I have a black interior waiting in storage for this truck. I have the Seat upholstery, however I don't have the folding lever trim and end cap in black. Now, if the pieces on the seats were complete and not missing, I would have attempted dying them black. That was not the case however, so I fired up Fusion 360 to make some suitable replacements. I may be open to selling these if there's enough interest but I'm not sure if I'd be able to color match. Salvagedcircuit
Hell yeah! Bring out the CAD! Nice job I have a bench seat myself, but I always love to see folks going the extra mile to make their projects a reality!

damianriel
There hasn't been much progress drivetrain or interior wise, hopefully I'll be finding my way to New England in the coming months to pick up the parts from my last project truck to install on this one. I did however just pick up a wildernest. It's got some issues but I'm confident it can be saved with some attention.

This is very interesting, I just cadded up some of the lever trim pieces the other day, was planning to mill them out of aluminum.

The 3d print seems to be holding up fine but the truck has been in a garage the entire time. I might be interested in milled ones in the future. damianriel
Opened the wildernest up for the first time and took it apart to get it off the Tacoma. Found some more rusty spots and will definitely need a new canvas.

If you did this, you might also want to do the seat back adjuster knob too.
fiatslug87
A new tent for it is over $2K, mine cleaned up really nice after a couple oxy-clean soaks. See the WilderNest Trailer link in my signature.

damianriel
This year has been pretty hectic for me and progress on this truck has basically been non-existent. Hopefully with everything starting to settle down I can start to focus more on the truck than the other things that have been in play. That's not to say there hasn't been movement on this, or supporting projects, quite the opposite. However it does feel like there hasn't been any tangible movement on the actual truck, having a lift again will make this project much easier I believe. Last week I flew back to Rhode Island with my good buddy and we stripped as many parts as I could remember out of storage with my original truck. The shell is staying, I was going to put it outside and offer it up for free to whoever wanted to pick up what was essentially just a cab, dash, frame, and bed, but I think my brother got it in his head that it's worth something and he can sell it. Whatever. After loading everything up in our budget truck we started our 2900ish mile road trip back to Arizona. Unfortunately there may have been some losses along the way. Namely the SMS headliner I've had sitting around since 2018, still in usable condition but with how much effort I'm putting into the truck I'll be ordering a new one. And I found a crack on the black dash I had bought years ago as well, so I bought the only one I found on Ebay. I guess we can expect to see both these items listed on the classifieds soon. damianriel
A few days after getting everything unpacked I did decide to try and get something done on the truck only for it to blow up in my face. When I bought the black interior back years ago I got seat upholstery. I decided to swap the upholstery onto the seat frames I got about a year ago. This is when I learned that the upholstery from a 4 door XJ seat would not fit the MJ/2d XJ seat frames. Back to the drawing board with that one I guess. I may just sell the seat frames, brackets, and upholstery separate, and throw some Corbeau GTS II's or something in the truck. Or I can see about taking my seats to an upholstery shop, but I think I'll need new seat foam and every one I've ever taken from a JY was torn in one way or another, I've read a good upholstery shop can remake foam, or at least close enough, but I've got 0 experience with that and I can't imagine there's too many "good" upholstery shops left. watchamakalit
The upholstery should all interchange between bucket seats. I have 4 door xj upholstery with MJ seats in my truck. What part were you having trouble fitting? Edit: I almost forgot to say, the base cushions are interchangeable from xj passenger seats. Much better chance of finding a good passenger base, then just swap the upholstery.

The back rest portion is not cut the same at the bottom of the cover to allow for the tilt mechanism. After work today I'll take some pictures. fiatslug87
You can still get them to work. I zip tied them to the frame and the flap just hangs there.
