Eagle
Does anyone know how much a 242 transfer case weighs? I need to pull the one in my wife's XJ to rebuild it, and I don't know if I can bench press it from under the vehicle in the driveway or if I'm going to have to have a shop pull it for me. Eagle
Sounds do-able (once the frost thaws and the ground dries up). Thanks
acfortier
Got a motorcycle jack? I've used them when dropping a transmission before.
JMO413
Harbor freight has a pretty nice transmission jack that I absolutely love. Mine has seen better days for sure. It is an absolutely great thing to have. So for I have used it on the transmission, transfer case, gas tank, rear bumper, rear diff, and front diff. It will pick up the entire front end but the legs fold over. Woops! When I get around to doing the diff's in the XJ I will be buying another one. eaglescout526
I concur with the jack above. It’s only down fall is trying to line up the transmission to sink it in place but otherwise it does what it needs to
howeitsdone
Lifted mine no problem. It's doable, just exhausting lol

fiatslug87
The older I get, the more I appreciate mechanical “advantage.”

I can recommend the Strongway tyranny jack from Northern Tool. I didn't have to separate the transfer case from the AX-15 when I replaced the slave cylinder. It handled both units still full of fluid. The platform has tilt and roll articulation which is nice. Very sturdy and safe. Buy it, use it, sell it. 75sv1
I don't know about putting on TC cases. I will be in the same boat, as soon as I rebuild the 242 I have. I did use some bolts with the heads cut off to 'guide' a NV3550 to the motor. Worked real well. Might work for a TC case.
