I planned to order a JCR rear bumper tonight but when I went to the website to order it I couldn't find it. the only one I could find was the DIY bumper. Anyone hear anything about this?

They may still make it if you call them but last I talked to them they were planning on winding down MJ specific products. I was surprised they came out with a new MJ rack though. That only came out a few months ago. Maybe they’re redesigning the rear bumper?

Are you stuck on JCR or just looking for a MJ bumper? I was at the Carlise PA All Breeds jeep Show. One of the Venders from PA had MJ rear bumpers for sale.

The JCR unit is the best I’ve seen aftermarket if you can still get one. The dirt bound one is similar in design but not quite the same build spec. Doesn’t protect the corners as well, the d ring mounts are a fair bit smaller and their is no receiver hitch built in so you have to add a lower hanging receiver if you decide to tow.

I messaged them today and they no longer make the crusader rear bumper 🙁 I was going to buy it last month but decided to get my gas tank done first. Guess I made the wrong choice.

Looks like I started quite the s**t show by starting this post. 😅 I'm bummed they no longer make the bumper but I'll have to see if they plan on making a new one or not. Hopefully they do because I planned on buying all the JCR stuff.

What about Dirtbound Offroad?

I'd steer clear of Dirtbound. I ordered a battery tray recently and it took 6 weeks and was only shipped after I talked to my CC company about investigating a charge back.

When I placed my order their website said it was in stock and would ship in 5 days. When I called to check after a week I was told, "oh yeah, that'll ship next week". The website still said it was in stock at this point. Then two more weeks went by.

I was concerned my order had gotten lost in the cracks so I emailed back and forth with their "CEO" a bit to find out what the hold up was. Rather than giving a level headed response he was argumentative and blamed COVID for everything. Still doesn't explain the multiple missed ship dates they provided though.  I understand things take more these days but at least be honest to your customers about that. A little sketchy that they charge you 100% up front (NOT a pre-authorization) when listing a product is in stock AND they already know they're backordered 5+ weeks...

I went and read back a couple years on their Google reviews and there it is...they've been terrible with shipping on time with plenty of people describing the exact experience I had, argumentative "CEO" and all.

Using COVID as an excuse when you've always run your business haphazardly is in pretty bad taste if you ask me. Caveat emptor.

Edit: just remembered. I left a one star review on their site and surprise, surprise. They don't have anything rated less than 3 stars on their site. I checked with the company that handles their reviews and guess what? They're allowed to "curate" what reviews they share! I'm not surprised but super sketchy nonetheless.

Dirtbound shipping is slow. 3-4 months to get the correct bumper. I got the wrong front bumper shipped to me but they did finally get me the correct one. I really do like the bumper though. It was worth the wait in my opinion. I ordered a battery tray and frame stiffeners at the same time. They showed up in a decent time frame. COVID-19 will be the excuse until the next excuse shows up. IMHO

dirtbound was in the middle of changing buildings the last few months.  their company was pure chaos for a while there. :(  but they've got a big new space to fill up with fancy machines now and I expect their wait times to drop significantly in the future. :L:

JCR has gone downhill for sure.  I bought a full set of bumpers and sliders in late 2019 and they took forever to ship.  Once I got the stuff, there were a bunch of missed welds and other issues.  They eventually sent me a set of replacement sliders and a small discount, but it took hounding them forever.  Honestly, it's really tough to find good aftermarket MJ parts these days.

To add--the JCR sliders do not fit well.  They don't line up well with the pinch seam and I decided to not even run them since I would rather not hack up my truck...

So besides JCRs diy bumper and the dirt bound rear bumper what options do I have? I messaged JCR and asked if they planned to make it again or a revised model and got a "we do not have any current plans for the Comanche market"

If there was enough interest, and JCR wanted to sell the design, I could talk to my manufacturing friend to see if he wanted to make a run of them.

here's a thought...design and build and sell his own version of mj bumper.

I am certain he has no interest in doing that. He is primarily a sign maker/custom metal furniture/art person. He has made automotive parts in the past but the margins are much thinner and the liability much higher.

Which is why jcr has stopped production. :grinyes: full circle. :teehee:
