What engin is this

Recommended Posts

"garbage" depends on what you want to do it the truck and what your skills are with a carb.  :L:  it doesn't have the power of the 4.0, but if it's lasted this long, it'll likely keep on chugging for a daily driver or weekend lumber-fetcher.  :comanche:

random fact, those Rims are from an TJ Rubicon :D

The only desirable thing about that engine in the Comanche is how easy it is to swap a 3.4 out of a 93-95 Camaro or Firebird in. And you're still left with a less powerful engine than the 4.0.

A 4.0 swap won't be drop-in. The radiator support(?), transmission/transfer case, and firewall all need to be changed. The firewall issue can be fixed with a hammer if I remember correctly.

By far the easiest and (IMHO) "best" swap for the '86 with a V6 is another V6 -- the Chevy/Pontiac 3.4L.

While that is true the 3.4 has okay aftermarket support to make it comparable to the 4.0. I had one in a van, it was fine, not a 4.0 but not a bad engine by any means. Except getting the coolant system bled out. That was a pain.
