FLETCH14519
Hello all, as I posted the other week, I am now a proud owner of a 1987 2WD , 4.0 , Jeep Comanche sport truck. I was wondering what the stock tire size for this truck is? Currently they are a 205/75/15. If that is a stock size, what's the largest size I could go staying stock? 235/75/15? Or is there a tire that can fill the fender opening width wise, so the truck does look so narrow? Any help would be great. Thanks guys.
gogmorgo
They left the factory with a range of sizes. I would have to check but your 205/75/15's are towards the small size of what the factory offered. The largest factory size was 225/75/15. That said, it's much easier (and cheaper) to find 235/75/15, given its just about the most popular tire size ever, and they fit great. I've currently got them on my MJ and an XJ. If you start going much bigger than that, the front tires will start to rub on the factory lower control arms at full steering lock, but other than that you should be able to fit up to a 32" tire on wheels with the factory offset at factory ride height. johnj92131
My 91 BigTon package truck came with 225/75 x 15 tires. I have run 235/75 x 15 on all 4 wheels with no issues at all. I have no lift or anything else special to fit the 235/75 x 15 tires. Never have tried larger 245/75 x 15 tires, so can not say they will or will not fit. Rims on the truck are factory aluminum, if that makes a difference. Really don't know the width of the rims.
cruiser54
I've got 235/75/15s on a stock height MJ also.
gogmorgo
aluminum or steel rims?Right. The aluminum wheels are 7" wide, the steels only 6", so that will limit the maximum width of the tire you can run. But you shouldn't have an issue putting 235 widths on a 6" wheel. cruiser54
I've got my 235s on 8" TJ Canyon wheels. If Photobucket wasn't such a crappy site, I woulda posted a photo. Anything better out there?

Pete M
that's part of the problem. the steel rims will pull the tires in more than the aluminum ones. :(
MeanLemons
I have 30x9.5R15 on TJ canyons on my 88 MJ with stock suspension. Very slight rubbing when turning at full lock.

Knucklehead97
235/75r15 on TJ canyon wheels with a 1-1/8" lift up front to level things out since it's a 2wd. 1.25" spacers on the rear. mikekaz1
I ran 235/75r15 on stock steelies for years, not a single issue in any aspect.

Actually, most of the factory steel wheels are also 15x7. The absolute base wheel (the one with nine rectangular slots, as shown in post #8) were 15x6 -- everything else was 15x7. jerpderp
I just put some 30x9.5s on a set of those wheels. They are in fact 6" wide. A hair of rubbing when I really hit the lock. But I also just realized that those tires aren't approved for anything narrower than 6.5" wheels. That might be kinda bad. I'd recommend 235/75/15. SVPete
When I switched from 205's to 235's.......it made it look like a truck that would go off road, instead of a car with a bed.

Okay, truck looks great! And not rubbing at all up front on the fenders, control arms, or anywhere?
Whiz
I have not experienced any rubbing myself since I changed to these tires. However, it is not my daily driver, tires have been on less than a year. I have taken sharp turns etc. though.
