88whitemanche
Front is direct swap...rear has to get the spring perches welded for the Comanche wether you want spring under or spring over....

onlyinajeep726
'00-'01 Cherokee has a low pinion front axle... A high pinion is more desirable, especially if you're going to lift it in the future.

Incommando
Scuttlebutt is that the HP ring/pinion is about 30% stronger than the LP because the gears ride on the "correct" side when going forward. With a ring gear as small as the D30's that is a significant amount
yxmj
I can only speak from experience...never popped a HPD30....but I have 2 LPD30 that are now worth 8 cents a pound at the shredder..
89eliminator
how high will the truck be lifted?
benjy_26
Depending on your planned use and tire size, a LP D30 can live a long and happy life. If you're staying below 3" of lift and sticking to 31's, I see no issue with a LP D30. Anything bigger in the tire department and I'd consider the HP D30. DirtyComanche
Unless you're getting some amazing deal on those axles, pass... No point swapping a LP front axle in, even if it will 'work'. I'm hoping that rear was at least an 8.25", because swapping a D35 would be a real waste of time.
Rockfrog
The stock non-abs rear axle for a 2000 XJ was a 29 spline 8.25 ... Well worth the price of admission. The front, meh, unless you get it so cheap. Then pull the knuckles out and swap them onto an earlier HP30 for the bigger shaft joints. I just picked up a 2000 XJ 8.25 for the MJ. Was not looking forward to another hope it survives D35.

With a ring gear as small as the D30's that is a significant amount thanks guys for the responses i'm only swapping the low pinion 8.25 in the rear don't plan on doing any extreme wheeling more like a daily driver and maybe an occasional weekend expedition looking at 4.5inches of lift and possibly 33's...can that work or no??? gogmorgo
4.5" should be more than good for 33's. 32's fit at stock height with minimal rubbing. As to running 33's on the 8.25, I think you should be good. It's loosely what I'm planning on.
Rockfrog
I run 35's on my 8.25 on my 2000 XJ, no worries there at all.
benjy_26
A buddy of mine with a leadfoot and a heavy tire/wheel package killed a 8.25 on 33's in an XJ. His trussed ZJ LP30 has survived for years under his truck, strangely enough. Driving style is another factor, I guess.
Rockfrog
92-96 were a 27 spline axle, housing was beefier, buy axles hats no better than a D35. 97+ were a 29 spline, mines taken a beating or 12.
gogmorgo
Yeah, my comment was based on the OP saying the axle was from a MY2000 XJ. My 8.25's out of an '03 four-cyl KJ, but it's not under the truck yet. Need to find/make a matching 4.10 D30 and piece together my lift first. Thanks for the feedback guys The 8.25 I'm swapping is 29 spline from a 2000 XJ like i said i don't really intend to do any serious off roading so i don't think it would be seeing too much abuse so hopefully i should be ok

benjy_26
Yeah, you should be ok. Even D35's live long and happy lives when used on the street.
