AeroNautical
A teacher once told me "You must learn mathematics, do you think when your older you'll always have a calculator in your pocket?". Hmm... Not just a calculator, an infinite wealth of information, as well. HA! WHAT NOW MS. RICH? (just kidding, stay in school kids)

64 Cheyenne
Math isn't all about 2+2, when people get proficient with "some" math it helps develop cognitive thinking skills which also help in all other areas of our life. Or so I was told by my friend a math teacher. Sounds legit to me....

johnj92131
Algebra is all about solving problems. Are you telling us you didn't solve any problems on Wednesday Jim? Another way to look at Algebra: How much beer can I buy with the $xx in my pocket??
Incommando
I am writing this on a device that I carry in my pocket and that enables me to access the majority of all knowledge accumulated by humanity. And what do I do with it? Talk about jeeps and watch cat videos.... :)

johnj92131
I have a problem just remembering whether a .003 under bearing is bigger or smaller than the original. I "think" the undersize refers to the cranks. Meaning a .003 under bearing would be for a crank with .003 wear from a long hard life. But sometimes, when I "think" I find that is should not have done that (meaning "think").

MJRemi
All the math equations we learned are apparently obsolete because all the schools teach now are Common Core principles which essentially doubles or triples the process of solving a math problem. And this is being taught to kids who have a computor of some form glued to their hands 24/7.

johnj92131
Don't get me started.......... I knew it was a bad sign years ago when kids couldn't tell time from a clock with hands on it instead of digital............. Not sure that you or I were ever required how to read a sundial. Nor am I sure how many of us could navigate by the stars at night. Even if we didn't live in big cities with so much light at night, we can barely see the stars. About 3 years ago, we had a huge blackout in San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties. It was really amazing to see all the stars we could see when the city lights were turned off. Just like being in the Sierra Nevada's. (huge mountain range along the eastern side of California for those not familiar with California geography. gogmorgo
I grew up knowing how to read a sundial and at least knowing which way to hold the map from looking at the stars. I can't read a traditional clock any more though. We had one in the shop with reversed movement, and now I try to read them all backwards...
