64 Cheyenne Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Math isn't all about 2+2, when people get proficient with "some" math it helps develop cognitive thinking skills which also help in all other areas of our life. Or so I was told by my friend a math teacher. Sounds legit to me....

I "think" the undersize refers to the cranks. Meaning a .003 under bearing would be for a crank with .003 wear from a long hard life. But sometimes, when I "think" I find that is should not have done that (meaning "think").

And this is being taught to kids who have a computor of some form glued to their hands 24/7.

Nor am I sure how many of us could navigate by the stars at night. Even if we didn't live in big cities with so much light at night, we can barely see the stars. About 3 years ago, we had a huge blackout in San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties. It was really amazing to see all the stars we could see when the city lights were turned off. Just like being in the Sierra Nevada's. (huge mountain range along the eastern side of California for those not familiar with California geography.
gogmorgo Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I grew up knowing how to read a sundial and at least knowing which way to hold the map from looking at the stars. I can't read a traditional clock any more though. We had one in the shop with reversed movement, and now I try to read them all backwards...
