Are Base Mj's Harder To See In Traffic Than Other Cars?

I've got a white MJ with the flat black front end.  Seems like people are ridiculously pulling out right in front of me a lot more often than I've noticed in my other vehicles.  Not only do they pull out, or across, but then they get up to speed very casually, like they have no idea what they've just done. :fs1:

I assume people have a hard time seeing it with its flat black front end and white paint.  It's gotten to the point where I've started to drive with my lights on all the time.  Anyone else notice this happening more in their base MJ's than their other cars?

I've had three people pull out in front of me. Twice I was doing 70 in the right lane with traffic stopped in the left because everyone turns there. My fault.

Another time a guy left a parking lot, cut across both lanes to turn left. Never looked my way.

My front end is as black as it gets and technically it's a base model but I think the brightly colored body offsets it. People usually don't pull out in front of me or cut me off. In fog, totally different story. Of course there's plenty of people too stupid to turn their lights on in fog (or they have their brights on) so I don't expect much.

P.S. that's a really nice MJ.

People do not notice nice or clean cars. Dirty nice cars or crap cars stick out, and they heed them because no one wants to get hit by a poor person who will take them for everything.

I don't think the threat of a lawsuit is the reason. I think that when they see something crappy and or junky they figure the guy driving it doesn't give a damn and would just as soon hit them as look at them.

I've been pulled out in front of in pretty much everything I've owned except the J10 and P71. They even loved pulling out in front of me when I would drive the big, loud, old, lifted, black and chrome, '87 K10. So size and flat black doesn't mean squat in how noticeable you are.

I think it has a lot to do with color and white, silver, black, etc. get it more often than actual colors like red or yellow. My mom is always complaining about it now that she has a white little Toyota instead of an orange Caliber. All my vehicles have been black except 3, the red J10, white P71, and silver BMW. But notice I only said the J10 and P71 didn't get pulled out in front of, I think that's because the J10 is something you don't see anymore and it was red. Even though the P71 was white, the reason it didn't get pulled in front of is easy to see plain as day.

Anymore though I just turn my lights on no matter time of day or weather. Better to be noticeable IMO. I hate people that drive around at dusk or in rain with their lights off, especially those in black or silver cars. I guess so long as they see it doesn't matter if others can see them.  :fs1:

Nonsense!!  That is why we carry liability insurance. Both on each car, and an umbrella personal liability policy.

Also likely true.

I see people in crap, cars as being trashy low life's. It's one thing to be rusty or old, but some cars just give you straight up insight as to what kind of scum are behind the wheel.

Insurance as liability only works if the guy who hit you even has it. A lot of limp along car drivers don't have insurance, whether required or not

I have had a white car or truck for the last 30 years, so what do I know, right?  I have also had other cars that were not white for that same 30 years.  And my Comanche is also a white base truck.  Driving in Southern California, there is no shortage of idiots on the roads.

Can not say I have noticed more people pulling in front of me  when I am driving a white vehicle than a different color,

Liability insurance covers you when the other guy or some third party attempts to sue you for damages and pays for damages up to the policy limit.  My personal liability umbrella policy covers me after that up to the limit of that policy.  My liability insurance does not cover damage to my car or personal property.

Now if the guy who hits you was in the wrong and has no insurance, then you are out of luck.

But if you are worried about him suing you, then your liability policy will cover you from that.  Make sense??

Hate to say it, but you're driving in America. It's just the way it is there.

As a non-native, I've been to a total of four states, and I've been in so many near-accidents I just kinda gave up on American drivers.

I've seen people do their make up while driving in a school zone, I've been cut off dangerously close so many times I've stopped being surprised, I've been the victim of truck drivers and their ''merging'' without looking, I've had people tell me that stop signs are optional when I pulled out of a Lowe's and almost got hit by them...

I've just had so many issues with driving in the US, I have lost faith. Let's face it, your driving test is a joke. It relies on parental supervision, and in most cases they just pass on their bad driving habits. My brother in law was told to drive down the street to a Steak-and-Shake, they went through the drive through and then they drove back. He got his license for just doing that.

Don't even get me started on the condition of some of the cars currently on the road in Indiana(brake lights people!)

I don't think it's related to your car, I think it's related to 'Murica  :dunno:

Don't get me wrong, I love going to America. I just have to drive differently when I'm there.

I don't think this is a fair statement. I was a parking lot the other day in my S10, some guy backs out runs into the rear quarter of my truck, minimal damage.

The guy looks at me, my truck sees we're both old and thinks he should be able to just call it good because my truck is old and ugly.

What I did is another story, that I regret because I was being a nice guy and BTW, I do/did have insurance at the time.

My point is, sometimes people drive what they do because it is what they can. That guy stereotyped me, made me feel that me and my truck were insignificant, below him and did not matter. Now some might say the Chief is crappy because its old, but it is the only vehicle around here that was not stuck this last weekend.

So now because I drive crappy looking trucks, I think people might think I'm scum? Reality is I'm a single parent, college student, don't drink or do drugs, my truck is old because its what I can afford. You never know, that guy you think is scum because of what he drives, maybe his wife left him, took all he had, maybe she died, leaving him with kids all alone, or the single mom whose deadbeat uined her credit and she can't afford a nice car. So what I'm saying is it really fair to judge somebody by what they drive without walking a mile in their shoes....

I should have took that guy to court...I'm too nice, I had him give me $20, dinner for me and my daughter. Now whos scum, me for my appearance, or the guy who I should have taken to court? In retrospect, I bet he did not have insurance.

I have been hit by enough people that stereotyping based off vehicles has helped me avoid more accidents than it has hurt me for being judgemental.

I see a crap car, I stay away. Just like a swerving car or oncoming car in the wrong lane

The color has something to do with it

I was driveing in broad day light and almost got hit and ive got a silver truck

course the dolt that pulled out in front of me was a mexican woman leaving steak and shake

almost had some one back into me when i was driving the gfs black Hyundai.. but when i used to own a red ford ranger nobody pulled out in front of me

Also people can be stupid..all the tech we have makes some drivers more dangerous

Would also say I have rear ended two people, both in slick conditions, under 2mph, one of which I had no insurance. Both times I had them assess the damage and gave them my correct contact info, both times I paid cash for damage, and both times I was stereotyped...one in a 15 passenger ratty b van, one in my 87 on 35" tires with a big cow catcher while towing an xj on a dolly. Neither of my vehicles had a scratch, and they were pleasantly surprised that I was honest about everything.

Been on both sides of this, don't like either of them.

People ALWAYS @#$%ing pulling out in front of me :fs1: in both my (gunmetal pearl *blue*) Cherokee and (tan) Comanche. So I don't really think color has anything to do with it. Just they don't care and assume you will stop for them. However. I put a big @$$ mofo of a stinger on the Cherokee. NOT one person has pulled out in front of me in it since then...once I get cash I'm putting on the Comanche as well.

I agree with this line of thought... and here's an example:

In 1983, I was living in SoCal and had a nice late model Audi and a primer red '69 Land Cruiser with a soft top (when it was even on).  If I was in the Audi and signaled for a lane change on the freeway, drivers would close the gap so I couldn't move over, so I learned not to signal in the Audi.  In the Cruiser, I would signal and the gap wouldn't close, in fact, most of the time, the gap got a lot bigger.
